The article presents a comparison of traditional university introductory courses in Zoology and newer university introductory courses in biology. It is stated that the first of the two courses offered in the traditional university introductory courses was designated as Zoology 1A, entitled General Zoology while the second was designated as Zoology 1B, also entitled General Zoology. The first course had no prerequisite courses listed as a condition for admission for non-majors and was concerned with principles of animal biology, with emphasis on invertebrates. The second course dealt with the principles of animal biology with emphasis on comparative gross and microscopic anatomy and on physiology of the vertebrates.
