The changes in serum IgE levels of the patients with allergic nasal diseases were examined by the radioimmunosorbent test (RIST) and their diagnostic values were discussed as follows: 1) The patients with allergic nasal diseases showed higher serum IgE levels than non-allergic patients. 2) The serum IgE level of the patients with asthma and/or atopic dermatitis with nasal allergy complications was about 3 times higher than that of patients without such complications. 3) Serum IgE concentration of the pollinosis patients increased significantly in the pollinating season. 4) Serum IgE level of the patients allergic to house dust is higher than that of normal individuals, and is roughly parallel to the blood eosinophil count. 5) The patients with allergic rhinitis show increased IgE values as the degrees of positive HD skin tests get higher. 6) By specific desensitization therapy using serum IgE levels increased during the early stage of this treatment but no decrease was seen as the therapy progressed.
