39. The Fine Structure of Auer Bodies*.

Abstract

Auer bodies are enveloped with the limiting membrane and they show various internal structures. The body reveals (I) regularly arranged tubules (100 Å in diameter; 20Å in thickness of the wall) or (II) a bundle of tubules and dense material or (III) less dense homogeneous material. Auer bodies having regularly arranged tubules of a crystal-like appearance in cross section are rod-shaped while others are irregularly shaped. Auer bodies and azurophil granules in promyelocytes resemble to each other in tubular internal structure and in the mode of per oxidase reaction. A tubular structure is confirmed in some specific granules of mye-locytes and in a few specific granules of mature neutrophils. Abstract

Epidemic Kerato-Conjunctivitis caused by Adenovirus Type 8 is one of the most common eye diseases. Adenovirus, a microorganism producing this disease, was discovered in 1953 by Rowe by means of the tissue culture method, and it is of much interest clinically and virolo-gically. That these first E. M. pictures showed adenovirus in the cells of the human conjunctiva affected with E. K. C. has been recognized as true by investigators. Abstract

The mechanism of triplet-triplet (T-T) energy transfer in fluid solution has been studied by means of phosphorimetry in the temperature range 0–60 °C with acetophenone as energy donor, 1,4-dibromonaphthalene as acceptor and isooctane, isopentane or carbon tetrachloride as solvent. From the temperature dependence of the energy transfer, α and kdif could be evaluated separately, kdif denoting the diffusion-controlled rate constant for the encounter of donor and acceptor molecules and αkdif corresponds to the rate constant for the overall energy transfer reaction. The α values are 0.28 at 25 °C in isopentane and 0.43 at 21 °C in isooctane, indicating that the T-T energy transfer process is not strictly diffusion-controlled. The kdif values are nearly equal to those predicted by a modified Debye equation.

Abstract

透明電極を用いて64画素CCD (charge-coupled device : 電荷結合素子) を試作し, ラインセンサーとして撮像実験を行った.その結果, 光の利用率が向上し, 従来の金属電極CCDにくらべて感度が数倍向上し, 撮像装置として有利なことがわかった.また1回の転送ごとに画素数より数個多いクロックパルスを用いて信号を転送する駆動方式を用いることにより, 残留電荷を1回の走査で消去でき, 画質を向上させることができた.

Abstract

The phosphorescence spectrum of naphthalene has been measured in fluid isooctane solution in the temperature range of 80 to −100°C. The spectrum is essentially different from that obtained in rigid solution at 77K, and is ascribable to phosphorescence from the triplet excimer of naphthalene. An analysis of the experimental results suggests that the radiative rate constant for the triplet decay is enhanced as a result of the formation of the triplet excimer.
