Abstract

By pressing a ferrite powder in a magnetic field, it is possible to align an easy axis of each crystallite. After firing, the material will exhibit some single crystal properties. It is then possible to utilize the anisotropy fields to bring the ferrite into microwave resonance at much lower external magnetic field values. A series of ferrites having cubic anisotropy was prepared by this method and studied extensively by measuring the anisotropy energy, the saturation magnetization, and the resonant field at 14,775 mc/sec. Good agreement between theory and experiment was obtained in most cases. For some compositions the resonant field was reduced from 3500 oersteds to 1200 oersteds. However, a high off-resonance loss mitigated this advantage to some extent. (Author)
