Increased incidence of respiratory infections has been mentioned in air polluted area. The incidence rates of pharygolaryngitis and common cold + bronchitis have been increased and are much higher in the air polluted area in Yokkaichi than control nonpolluted area. However, the level of SO2 in this area has decreased and averaged 0.03 ppm in 1972 compared with 0.08 ppm in 1964. The prevalence rates of rhinitis and tonsillitis of school children was significantly higher in this area in 1972.A distinct increase in DNA labeling index of the epithelial cells of the trachea was observed at the first week of exposure period to SO2 in mice. The labeling index returned to preexposure level after the second week of the exposure. In a period from the third week to 15th, the tracheal epithelium was replaced by tall ciliated columnar one which contained a large number of PAS positive cells. The mice exposed to SO2 for 4 weeks were inoculated influenza virus PR8 intranasally. The inflammatory changes in the nasal cavity in the SO2 + virus group were severer and spread much rapidly than virus control. In addition, HI titer developed much rapidly and reached higher level than virus control.The mean concentration of parotid salivary IgA of the normal school children in the polluted area was not significantly different than that of nonpolluted area. But the variance was significantly different.Individual value of serum IgG of the mice exposed to NO2 from intrauterine to the 4th week pcstpartum varied considerably compared with consistent value of control.The incresed severity of virus infection in SO2 mice appeared to result from interaction between effects of SO2 and infection. This interaction could increase the severity of infection. Although the manner of this interaction still needs to be answered, it should be considered that air pollutants may affect the immune response.

A new grain-oriented silicon steel with a higher degree of grain orientation than usually obtainable by known conventional procedures was developed. The new material (HI-B) has made large improvements in core loss and magnetostriction characteristics by effects due to surface coating that are more remarkable with a higher degree of grain orientation. HI-B is 2-3 grade better than today's conventional products. Furthermore, there will be the possibility of improvement by 1-2 grade in the near future. HI-B has lower linear magnetostriction as compared to conventional material and is less sensitive to stress in spite of superior magnetic properties. Actual transformers made from HI-B materials have improved transformer characteristics such as core loss, exciting VA, and noise, reflecting the magnetic properties of materials.

As a fundamental study on corrosion of refractories by alkali-containing vapor, the present study has been made for the purpose of researching the reactions occurred in the refractory materials such as corundum, mullite and forsterite when they were exposed to vapors from the melt of mixed salt, K2CO3-Na2CO3, at 1200°C and from the melt of mixed salt, K2SO4-Na2SO4, at 1300°C.In the tests with carbonate vapor, the reactions took place through two stages under the condition held in a steady vapor composition and at a constant temperature. At the early stage the mole ratio of K2O to Na2O found in the reaction products was almost the same as that in the vapor, whereas at the later stage the products were altered progressively into those richer in Na2O by replacing K in the products by Na in the vapor. In the respective cases of corundum, mullite and forsterite, the solid solutions of K- and Nacompounds as shown by the following formulas were formed, namely, (K, Na) AlO2, (K, Na)3Al3SiO8 and (K, Na)2xMgxSi10-xO20 (4≤x≤5). During cooling, however, the solid solutions were separated into two phases of K- and Na-compounds. Consequently, the amount of Na-compounds in the reaction products increased with increasing time of reaction.In comparison to the tests with carbonate vapor, the reaction velocity observed when tested with sulphate vapor were very sluggish, nevertheless, at the early stage of reaction the mole ratio of K2O to Na2O in the product was almost the same as that vapor also in this case.

Effects of conditioning stimulation of the cerebral cortex upon excitability of the terminals of the optic tract (OT) were examined in unanesthetized cats with immobilization. The cortical stimulation was made with a single shock or repetitive pulses at 100-300/sec.1. The antidromically conducted action potential of the OT, produced by stimulation of the OT terminals within the lateral geniculate body (LGB) and recorded from the optic chiasma, was enhanced following the cortical conditioning stimulation. This facilitatory effect appeared with a latency not less than 10 msec, reached the maximum at about 60-90 msec and continued sometimes beyond 400 msec. The facilitation increased with increasing the number of pulses for the cortical conditioning stimulation and was seen with varying the intensity of the testing stimulation in a wide range.2. The action potential of the terminals of the OT, produced by stimulation of the optic chiasma and recorded from within the LGB, was suppressed by cortical conditioning stimulation. The time course of this suppression was about the same as that of facilitation of the antidromic response of the OT.3. Combining the above-mentioned findings, it was concluded that the effects of cortical stimulation were manifestation of the presynaptic inhibition in the LGB.4. In the cortex ipsilateral to the OT terminals examined, a posterior half of the lateral gyrus was the area from which facilitation of the antidromic OT response was most easily elicited. Next to this, stimulation of the middle supra-and ectosylvian gyri was effective. The active spots were found distributed also on the contralateral cortex in about the same way as in the ipsilateral side.5. Nembutal was effective to suppress the cortical facilitation of the antidromic OT response. Attempts to see the effects of picrotoxin failed to yield conclusive evidence.

"タイトスカートを製作する場合のダーツの位置およびその分量について,第5報で得たスライディングゲージ法による横切断面図を用いてその設定法を試みた.ダーツの位置の設定は,ウエストおよびヒップ位置に腹部を含む横切断面複合図を作製し,その図に接する長方形を描き,図の中心点と4つの角を結ぶ対角線をダーツの位置設定の基準線とし,その線から前後中心に向かって8度の位置(前後第1ダーツ),脇の方向に12.8度の位置(前後第2ダーツ),幅径の基準線(脇ダーツ)とウエスト廻り線との交点をそれぞれのダーツの位置とした.その各位置問の全被験者寸法の平均値によって前後別の比率を求めた.ダーツ分量の設定は,複合図のウエスト廻り線からヒップ廻り線への出張りの分量により,各ダーツの分量の配分をすることが妥当と考え,各ダーツ位置の出張り分を計り全被験者の平均値を求め,前後別にその比率を算出し各ダーツ分量の設定率とした.そのダーツの位置および分量の設定率を用いて着用実験を行なったところ,腰部の体型は複雑であり適合しにくい者のいることがわかった.そこで各角度からの検討を加え,腹部出張り体型,でん部出張り体型,脇出張り体型,標準体型の4つの体型に分類した.その体型別にダーツの位置および分量の設定率を求め,その比率を用いて試案としてのタイトスカートの作図をし,トワールによって実物製作をして着用実験を行なったところ,一応好ましい結果を得ることができた.しかし更に検討を必要とする問題もあり,試案としてのタイトスカートの作図について,更に研究を進めたいと思う.終わりに本実験に御協力下さった本学服飾コースの学生に深く感謝する."

"被服構成における作図寸法の基準化を計るための資料を得たいと考え,体幹各位置の周径,幅径,厚径,長径,角度,体重の相関関係について1,142項目の検定を行なった。その結果1%の危険率で高度に有意であったのは388項目であり,5%の危険率で有意であった112項目と合わせて500項目となり,全体の44%に相関関係が認められた。1.相関関係 1)周径,幅径,厚径,長径についての相関関係 (1) 体幹各位置の周径相互の関係について107項目の検定を行なった結果71項目に有意差が認められた。なかでも頚付根点,乳頭点,細腰腋点,腹部前突点,殿部後突点など被服構成上最も重要な位置の周径がそれぞれ高度な相関係数を示し,本研究を進める上に好ましい結果を得ることができた。幅径の相関関係については128項目の検定中75項目が有意であり,厚径については33項目の検定中29項目が有意であった。また長径の場合は129項目の検定中82項目に有意差が認められ,周径の場合と同様に被服構成上重要要素である長径が高度に有意差を示したことは好ましいことである。以上周径は周径どおしというように同一項目間の相関関係は1部を除いてはほとんど高度に有意の傾向が認められた。(2) 周径と幅径との相関関係は56項目の検定中51項目に有意差が認められ,周径と厚径との相関関係は56項目の検定中47項目が有意であり,幅径の場合と同様に高度な相関関係がみられ,例えば人体写真における幅径によって周径を算出し得る妥当性(シルエッターによる体型計測)を裏づけるものと思われる。(3) 長径と周径との場合は63項目の検定中22項目が有意であり,長径と幅径と場合は32項目の検定中9項目のみが有意であった。特に被服との関係において重要な乳頭,細腰,殿部等の周径,および幅径と長径との相関関係はみられなかった。しかし肩先点,第7頚椎点は有意の傾向がみられた。長径と厚径との場合は32項目の検定中,有意であったのは1項目のみであり,ほとんど相関関係は認められなかった。幅径と厚径との場合は56項目の検定中,25項目が有意であった。以上体幹各位置,各項目の相関関係は,周径と幅径および厚径との場合は高度に有意差がみられたが,周径と長径との相関度は低い傾向であった。このことは体型分類および被服寸法の基準化を困難にするものと考えられる。1)体重と角度に関する相関関係 体重と長径,幅径,厚径との相関関係はほとんど全項目が有意であったが,長径との場合は,10項目中4項目のみが有意であり,また角度との場合は2項目にやや有意差がみられたにすぎなかった。2.体型分類 体型分類にあたっては先に述べたように周径と長径との相関度が低いために総合的に分類することは困難であるから各項目別に分類を試み,更にその位置別の分類記号を組み合わせて体型分類を行なった。1)周径による体型分類 体幹を上体,下体に分けて分類を行なったが,上体では肩先,乳頭,細腰腋の3つの位置,下体では細腰腋,腹部前突,殿部後突の各位置の組み合わせとした。上体では1分類に含まれる人数が2名を越えるものでは8種類となり,更に1名のみという特色を持つ体型はその他の中に含めて7種類となった。下体では4種類となり上体に比べて好ましい結果が得られた。2)幅径による体型分類 周径の場合と同じ組み合わせによって行なったが,体幹上体では8種類となり,その他は2種類であった。また体幹下体では7種類と4種類にわけられた。3)厚径による体型分類 体節上幹の厚径については周径の場合の肩先点に変えて肩甲骨点を加えたが,5種類とその他が7種類に分けられた。また体幹下体の場合は8種類に分けられ,上体の場合より下体の方が複雑な分類となった。4)長径による体型分類 長径による分類は頭頂～頚椎点,体幹,股下高の3つの長径の組み合わせとしたが,9種類とその他が10種類に分類され,また身体の上半身と下半身の2つの長径の組み合わせでは5種類に分類された。以上のように体型分類を試みた結果,女子の体型がいかに複雑であるかを知ることができたが,この後これらの資料をもとにして,体型分類の方法については更に研究を進めたいと考えている。終りに本研究に被験者として協力された服飾専攻の学生に感謝の意を表する。"

We have reported two cases of TAKAYASU'S syndrome, in which skin complication of tuberculide- or tuberculoderma-like eruptions are observed. Thirty-three and 40 year-old female patients with characteristic clinical picture of "pulseless disease" have developed during their clinical course, papulonecrotic tuberculide-like exanthema on her forearms and erythema nodosum-like eruptions in her shins in the former and tuberculoderma-like pyoderma on her left forearm and both shins in the latter. Skin biopsy has been done on these eruptions, which indicated nonspecific proliferative inflammation and the culture of tubercle bacilli from these specimen was negative. It has been suggested that the immunoallergic reaction would be well responsible in pathogenesis of both aortic lesion and skin eruptions, most likely based on tuberculosis allergy.

The formal solutions of problems involving transient heat conduction in infinite internally bounded cylindrical solids may be obtained by the Laplace transform method. Asymptotic series representing the solutions for large values of time are given in terms of functions related to the derivatives of the reciprocal gamma function. The results are applied to the case of the internally bounded infinite cylindrical medium with, (a) the boundary held at constant temperature; (b) with constant heat flow over the boundary; and (c) with the ``radiation'' boundary condition. A problem in the flow of gas through a porous medium is considered in detail.

"女子の体型に適合する合理的で着やすい服を得るための基礎資料として体型を研究し,第1報～第3報までに報告したデーターを用いて,今回は体型を形として把握しようと,第7頚椎から細腰腋点までの長さ(背丈)を基準とし,体幹における長径,厚径,幅径,周径各々6項目づつの計24項目の比率を求めて検討を行なった.1.背丈に対する比率の大きさによる検討(平均値)長径,厚径,幅径のすべての部位と,周径の第7頚椎を加えた19項目は,基準である背丈よりも小さいという結果であった.(図2・4・6・8)これを割合によって大きいものから順に示すと,幅径における肩幅が1弱となり基準である背丈とほぼ同じ幅となり最も大きい.6/7に近い大きさのものは,幅径における殿部が6.1/7,腹部が5.7/7で,幅径の2項目で長径,厚径にはなかった.5/7に近い大きさのものは,幅径における乳頭が5.3/7,長径における体節下部丈の4.8/7の2項目で,厚径にはなかった.4/7に近い大きさのものは,厚径に最も多く殿部の4.1/7,乳頭の3.9/7,腹部の3.8/7,肩甲骨の3.7/7と順に少しづつ小さくなり,幅径では細腰が4.3/7,長径では肩甲骨が4/7となり,この分類法の中では最も多く6項目が含まれていた.3/7に近い大きさのものは,厚径における細腰の3.1/7と,長径における乳頭の3,1/7の2項目で,幅径にはなかった.2/7に近い大きさのものは,幅径におる第7頚椎の2.2/7と,厚径における第7頚椎の1.9/7の2項目で,長径にはなかった. 1/7に近い大きさのものは,長径における頚窩の0.9/7の1項目であった.なお長径における殿部は背丈の約1/2で,腹部は1/4強であった.周径における背丈に対する比率は,第7頚椎の約0.9倍と小さくなるのを除いた,5項目はすべて背丈を大きく上まわった.これを大きいものから倍率によって順に示すと殿部(腰囲)が背丈の約2.4倍となり,次いで乳頭(胸囲)の約2.3倍,肩先の約2.2倍,腹部の約2.2倍とつづき,細腰つまり胴囲は約1.7倍と小さかった.2.背丈に対する比率による項目別検討 背丈に対する比率を平均値で各項目別にまとめてみると,第7頚椎は厚径が背丈に対して1.9/7であり,幅径が2.2/7となり厚径よりも幅径の方がやや大きい.周径は6.4/7となりこれは背丈の約0.9倍にあたる.肩甲骨においては,長径が背丈の4/7となり,厚経は3.7/7と長径よりやや小さい.乳頭においては,長径は背丈の3.1/7となり,厚径は3.9/7 , 幅径は5.3/7となり,周径は背丈の約2.3倍であった.細腰においては,厚径は背丈の3.1/7となり,幅径は4.3/7 , 周径は背丈の約1.7倍であった.腹部においては,長径は背丈の1/4よりやや長く,厚径が3.8/7, 幅径は5.7/7, 周経は背丈の約2.2倍であった.殿部においては,長径は背丈の1/2よりやや長く,厚径は4.1/7, 幅径は6.1/7, 周径は背丈の約2.4倍となり厚径,幅径,周径は6項目中最も大きい.上記した背丈に対する割合を用いれば体型の略図を容易に描く事が出き体型を数字ではなく,形として把握しやすくなり,更に種々の人体プロポーシヨンとの比較検討を行なう事によって日本の若年女子のプロポーションを理解させやすくなる.又7分割の比率表を作成する事により各自の体型を容易に図式化する事も可能となり,体型別デザイン演習等に効果を上げる事が出来るであろう.3.ばらつきの検討 背丈に対する比率と寸法におけるそれぞれのばらつきを比較検討するため標準偏差/平均値×100により平均値・標準偏差指数を求めた.(表5・6)背丈に対する比率の平均値・標準偏差指数(表5)において大きくばらつくのは長径の下半身各長径で10%を上まわり,次いで厚径のグループが大きく,周径がそれに続き幅径においては,第7頚椎をのぞく項目が最も小さい傾向であった.寸法の平均値・標準偏差指数(表6)においても,比率の場合と同じ傾向であった.平均値・標準偏差指数の背丈に対する比率と寸法とを比較すると長径においては,体幹下部をのぞく5項目は比率の指数が小さく,体型分類を行なう場合,寸法で行なうより容易になると考えられる.しかし他の厚径,幅径,周径においてはすべて比率の指数が大きい結果となり,寸法によって分類するよりも更に複雑となり,体型分類は寸法の方が好ましいのではないかと思われる."

Paleontologists working in Tertiary oil fields are using smaller forminifera as effective tools in correlation of strata., It seems, however, only one face of fauna, i., e., qualitative face, is being considered in the form of range chart, or distribution chart, which may be called "a qualitative analysis., " The author expressed the necessity of another face of fauna, that is "quantitative" in character., The quantitative analysis means a statistic analysis of fauna which is a new branch of Paleosynecology., Foraminiferal fauna to be stndied by this method should be treated statistically, and after numbering individuals and species of foraminifera, paleosynecological considerations will be done to assemblages., The author discussed in this paper, 1) Necessity of statistical method in applied paleontology of oil field, 2) Sampling method, and 3) Method of statistical studies in general.

"スカート製作の場合の脇縫い目線は人体の側面からみた脇線傾斜角度に添うように補正をするが,そのときウエストのベルト付け位置の前後のくり寸法は着用者の腹部および腰部周辺の体型によって変化する例が非常に多い.従ってその要因を明らかにするために今回はまず腰部周辺の角度とウエストくり寸法との相関関係について検討したが,次のような結果を得たので""図12""のようにまとめてみた.""図12""は人体の腰部周辺の角度について7項目をとりあげ,13組の相関関係について検討した結果とスカート補正後の前後のくり寸法と,各角度との相関関係を39組について点グラフによって検討した結果の一覧図であるが,○印の7組のみが相関関係がみられ,あとの45組は相関はみられなかった.脇線傾斜角度と殿部最突部角度,脇線傾斜角度と補正後のウエストくり寸法b,更に脇線傾斜角度と製図(補正前)のくり寸法が補正によって変化した寸法c,との3組はそれぞれ相関関係にあることがわかった.脇線傾斜角度が大の者は殿部の角度も大の傾向がみられ,脇線傾斜角度が大の者は後ウエストくり寸法も多くなる傾向がある.なお補正される場合の後ウエストくり寸法の変化についても脇線傾斜角度の大小に影響されて変化することがわかった.従ってスカートを製作する場合に脇線傾斜角度は無視出来ないことであり,角度が大の人は作図の時点において後ウエストくり寸法を多くしなけれはならないということであるが,その他の要因も関係するので別の角度からの研究も必要になってくると思われる.後ウエストの角度と補正後の後ウエストくり寸法b,同じく後ウエストの角度と製図の場合の後ウエストくり寸法が補正により変化した寸法cとの2組もそれそれ相関がみられた.後ウエストの角度が大の者は後ウエストくり寸法も大になる傾向がみられる.従ってその角度の大小に応じて後ウエストくり寸法の設定をしないとスカートの脇縫い目線か脇線傾斜に添うことなく前方あるいは後方に下垂することになる.脇の角度と前ウエストくり寸法(c),脇の角度と後ウエストくり寸法(c)との2組も相関関係にあることがわかった.脇の角度が大になるほど製図における(補正前)前ウエストくり寸法も後ウエストくり寸法も補正によって下(脇を基点する直角線より下)の方向にくり下げられる寸法が大になる傾向がみられる.このことは製図(試案)における脇の高さとウエストくり寸法の位置の関係は床面からの鉛直距離によるもの(体型図)であるが,スカートを着用した場合には腰部における外側・腸骨稜点や皮下脂肪によって影響され曲線に変って長さの寸法が大になる.従ってウエストくり寸法は補正前の寸法に対して当然多くなることはうなずける結果である.以上のように身体の下半身の角度のそれぞれの相関と前後のウエストくり寸法との関係がややあきらかになったが,ウエストくり寸法の変化の要因は角度のみではなく,それ以上に関係があると考えられる腹部や腰部周辺の皮下脂肪の間題の検討が残されている.今回の角度の検討で相関がないと判定したものの中にも皮下脂肪の間題などを併せて検討すれば,新しい研究結果が得られるのではないかと考える.次の研究は人体の腹部・腰部の横断面を把握することにより,さらにこの研究を進めたいと考えている.終りに本研究に御協力下さった本学服飾コースの学生に深く感謝する."

Using cats carrying permanently implanted electrodes, responsiveness of the lateral geniculate body (LGB) was studied during sleep and wakefulness. The postsynaptic discharges in response to stimulation of the optic tract (OT) were smallest during light sleep and increased during deep sleep. The responses during resting wakefulness were intermediate between those during light and deep sleep. Responsiveness of the presynaptic terminals was measured by recording antidromically conducted OT spikes to stimulation of the terminals with the LGB electrodes. It is suggested that the state of deep sleep provides the LGB with a more intense presynaptic inhibition than does the state of light sleep. The deep sleep wave, a peculiar spontaneous activity seen in the LGB during deep sleep, was found to intensify phasically facilitation at the postsynaptic level and also inhibition at the presynaptic level.

The results of quantitative or statistical studies of assemblages of smaller foraminifera will be used for comparison between two aggregations (degree of resemblance)., Of several formulae showing degree of resemblance, the following seems to be most comprehensive., [numerical formula] Where R : Resemblance degree a : Number of constituents of Group I b : Number of constituents of Group II c : Number of constituents, common in both Groups In applying this formula im comparison between two aggregations, it is reasonable to consider number of individuals in a species., Then the author introduced two empirical ways, one using logarithmic graph (fig., 1) and other adopting 2n (list no., 4), where "n" means evaluation weight replacing real number of individuals, and 2n showing limits of numbers to be represented by the weight "n".

This paper gives some details of design and construction of mechanical devices for the post irradiation examination facility in JAERI (Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute). Shielding door drive mechanism, cell conveyor system, sample transfer ports were devised with respect to complete remote control. Also are presented general descriptions of layout, cell compositions and other mechanical equipments.

The mean activity coefficients of tetraalkylammonium salts in aqueous solutions at were determined by the freezing-point depression method for a concentration range O, 005 mol/1 to O.7 molll.The mean activity coecients, of these salts were smaller, in genera1, than the values obtained by Lindenbaum et al. at 25 . Especially for (C2Hs)tNli (n-C4Hg)4NBr and (n-Cs Hg) NI, the r values weire smaller than the values estimated by the limiting-law of Debye-Httckel theory for a low concentTation range.The values for chlorides increased with the size of cation. The bromides and iodides, however, showed the reverse trends.

Cold‐rolled‐(110)[001]‐oriented single crystals of 3% silicon iron containing AlN in solution develop a doublet {111} 〈110〉−oriented primary recrystallization texture consisting of grains with diameter of 0.5 to 1 mm after anneal at 550°C for 40 h followed by anneal at 1200°C. At the first anneal, very fine needle‐like AlN precipitates, while (110)[001]‐oriented primaries begin to originate at the surface of the sheet. At the heating process of the subsequent anneal, doublet {111} 〈110〉−oriented primaries originate at the middle of the sheet, and then grow at the expense of (110)[001]‐oriented primaries. It is proved that very fine needle‐like AlN precipitated after cold rolling is found to have a great effect on these primary recrystallization phenomena.

The electromagnetic properties of the nuclei 19, 20 O, 19, 20, 21 F, 19, 20, 21, 22 Ne, 21, 22 Na and 22 Mg are studied in a shell-model basis in which the valence nucleons are restricted to the (0d, 1s) shell and the 16 O core is assumed to be inert. Central two-body interactions are taken as the residual interactions. Beyond mass number A = 20, the SU(3) and SU(4) groups are used to truncate the shell-model space to a dimension less than sixty. Good agreement with experiment is obtained, except for 22 Na.
