An intranuclear virus identical with or closely related to that of verruca vulgaris was demonstrated previously by the authors in epidermodysplasia verruciformis. The behavior of the virus in malignant degeneration of these skin lesions was studied by electron microscopy. Virus-containing cells could be demonstrated in intra-epidermal carcinomas, probably originating from the original cutaneous lesion. In contrast with these findings no virus-containing cells could be demonstrated after careful examination of an invasive "bowenoid" squamous cell carcinoma which histologically showed some features of an original e.v. lesion (epithelioma epidermodysplasique). A similar behavior of virus is known in malignant changes induced by polyoma virus in animals. The establishment of a possible relationship between virus and carcinogenesis was not within the scope of the investigations reported. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The ultrastructure of skin lesions in arteriolitis (vasculitis) allergica cutis superficialis in 4 patients, representing different clinical variants, is described. Attention was paid to the endothelial cells, the amorphous substance of the basement membrane and its hypertrophy, the fibroblasts of the vascular wall, the unusual coating of the collagen fibres with fibrin or fibrinogen and their derivatives. This article presents information on polyarteritis nodosa. Polyarteritis nodosa is a form of necrotizing angiitis. This term denotes a type of vascular anomaly which is characterized by fibrinoid changes and inflammatory reactions. Necrotizing angiitides may be generalized and involve internal organs, but they may also, which is less known, be chiefly confined to the skin. The latter group is of particular interest to a dermatologist. In necrotizing angiitides with predominantly cutaneous location there are two main groups that can be distinguished, apart from the individual characteristics of the vascular lesions.

This article presents information on angiokeratoma corporis diffusum. As a rule, angiokeratoma corporis diffusum appears before puberty and, so far, has been exclusively in males. The cutaneous lesions consist of very small lesions, only slightly, or not at all, hyperkeratotic. They are more or less disseminated over the body and consist of pinhead-sized or slightly larger spots or slightly elevated papules which do not disappear on diascopic pressure. Their colour varies from purple to dark blue-red, becoming leaden-hued to black later.

This article focuses on the condition of skin of patients suffering from purpura rheumatica and cites several case reports. One of the patients complained of palpitation. During the course of his illness, he had suffered from pleurisy of unknown origin and on one occasion keratitis was seen during an exacerbation. A diagnosis of purpura rheumatica was made. The disorder failed to respond to any treatment until ACTH was used. In purpura rheumatica, an allergic pathogenesis is accepted by many researchers. The histological picture in some degree supported the opinion that an allergic process might come into play. The attack of "influenza" preceding the skin manifestations might suggest the possibility of infectious allergy, but sufficient proof of this supposition could not be established. The primary cutaneous changes in purpura rheumatica consist of slightly oedematous, red, inflammatory patches.

This article presents a case study related to allergic cutaneous vasculitis. A focal infection was demonstrated in some patients, and lasting recovery was obtained in a very chronic case after the removal of such a focus. It appeared that there were numerous clinical manifestations of the group of skin affections and that classification according to their clinical and morphological features was not suitable. This was the reason why in the delimitation of these eruptions the attention of researchers was primarily directed to the evaluation of their histopathological basis.
