This report describes a human embryo with a length of 12 mm (horizon XVII Streeter, 35 ± 1 day old), in which the following malformations appear: Dilatation on both sides of the Wolffian ducts, and the more caudal mesonephritic glomerules (mesohydronephrosis). Dilatation of both ureters and renal pelvis (ureterohydronephrosis). These malformations are the result of the accumulation of liquid secreted by the mesonephros in a cloaca which is dilated, unwalled and blocked by an epithelial plug which is continuous with the cloacal membrane.

Ten human embryos ranging from 10 to 20 mm in vertex-coccyx length (Horizons XVI and XVII Streeter) aged between 33 +/- 1 and 39 +/- 1 days, were studied in order to interpret the mechanism which determines the displacement of the ureter from the dorsal part of the Wolffian duct toward the lateral wall of the bladder. We demonstrated that this movement occurs due to the fact that the duct common to the ureter and the Wolffian duct undergoes a process of internal rotation before it is absorbed by the urogenital sinus. This determines that the ureteral orifice enter the urogenital sinus laterally with respect to the Wolffian duct. This absorption indicates that the mucosa of the trigone is of mesoblastic origin and the remainder of the besical of endoblastic origin. The origin of the muscular apparatus of the detrusor is entirely mesoblastic.

SUMMARYAn experiment was carried out to test the effect of varying selection intensity on the response to individual selection with a fixed number of individuals scored per generation. The selected trait was egg laying of virgin females ofTribolium castaneumscored from the 7th to the 1 lth day after adult emergence. Five different selected proportions of females were considered (5, 10, 20, 33 and 50%) and each treatment was represented by two replicate lines. Control lines were maintained throughout the experiment. The lines selected at the lowest proportions (5 and 10%) led to the largest initial gains, but the largest final gains were achieved, by the lines where the proportions selected were 10 and 20%, in agreement with theory. Lines where the proportion selected was 50% gave the lowest rate of response over the period considered (32 generations). A good agreement was found between predicted and realized short-term responses to selection. Prediction at later stages of selection deteriorated in the most strongly selected lines mainly due to the levels of inbreeding attained.

The effect of coumarin, 4-hydroxycouraarin, coumarin-3-car-boxylic acid and acenocoumarol on the active transport of D-galactose and the passive diffusion of arabinose by intestinal sacs was studied. All these substances, when added to the mucosal medium of incubation at concentrations from 10−4 to 10−3M, inhibit the active transport of D-galactose and increase the diffusion of arabinose.Oxygen uptake by the intestinal tissue is only inhibited by coumarin-3-carboxylic acid.The results suggest that the effects obtained are probably due to an alteration in intestinal permeability, to inhibition of cell metabolism and to molecular size.

Las reflexiones transdisciplinares de este artículo estudian la relación entre naturaleza, ciencia y religión. Se dirigen a fenómenos complejos de nuestra realidad ontológica desde una perspectiva donde ciencia y religión se funden para dar paso a la filosofía cosmoderna. Como resultado, surge una ética global para reinventar lo sagrado como producto de la integración entre cosmovisiones religiosas y científicas. También se describe un diálogo interreligioso e intra-religioso donde la naturaleza y el cosmos constituyen el encuentro entre conocimiento científico y religioso. En resumen, el enfoque cosmoderno sostiene que aprender a co-evolucionar conscientemente requiere el desarrollo de una ecología de saberes, donde el conocimiento físico externo y la sabiduría espiritual interna convergen y se complementan en diferentes niveles de nuestra experiencia. This article’s transdisciplinary reflections aim to study the relationship between nature, science, and religion. They address complex phenomena of our ontological reality from a perspective in which science and religion merge to give way to the cosmodern philosophy. As result, a global ethics emerges to reinvent the sacred as the product of integration between religious and scientific worldviews. It also describes an interreligious and intra-religious dialogue where nature and the cosmos constitute the meeting between scientific and religious knowledge. In sum, the cosmodern approach argues that learning to co-evolve consciously requires the development of an ecology of knowledge, where outer physical knowledge and inner spiritual wisdom converge and complement each other on different levels of our experience.

The ground layout of this building is Y shaped, and it occupies an area of 21700 m2. It has two underground floors, a semibasement, and six floors, which house all the various activities of this medical centre. This structure is of simple, clean and distinguished appearance, and its arrangement is conditioned by the need to have as much natural illumination as possible, and also a flexible and compact distribution.Este edificio, que tiene planta en Y, y ocupa una superficie edificada de 21.700 m2, consta de planta de galería, planta de sótano, semisótano, planta baja y cinco plantas de altura, en las cuales han sido organizados los oportunos servicios e instalaciones, de modo que satisfacían las máximas exigencias apetecibles. El bloque presenta una fisonomía sencilla, limpia y elegante, estando su distribución presidida por las siguientes premisas rectoras: claridad, flexibilidad y concentración.

El artículo es el resultado de una investigación estudiantil, cuyo objetivo fue comprender la aplicación de la práctica del mindfulness para la atención a las personas mayores, desde Terapia Ocupacional y otras disciplinas, según las publicaciones científicas realizadas desde el año 2000 hasta 2020, de diversos estudios publicados a nivel internacional, nacional y regional. Se plasmó la conceptualización de esta técnica de meditación procedente de la tradición budista, la cual no tiene traducción exacta al español, pero es mencionada por varios autores como ‘atención plena’ o ‘conciencia plena’, que le permite al ser humano, hacer conciencia de forma plena de los sucesos ocurridos en la vida cotidiana, buscando direccionarlo hacia una conducta más adaptativa, promoviendo la regulación emocional, destrezas cognitivas e independencia, mejorando así la satisfacción en su calidad de vida. Para la Terapia Ocupacional en personas mayores, el mindfulness se orienta hacia las actividades de la vida diaria, pretendiendo que ellas tengan menos alteraciones cognitivas y funcionales, manteniendo la independencia y participación de su desempeño ocupacional.

In this work, after the study of 45 normal human embryos of 5-55 mm from vertex to coccyx, it is shown that the ureteric ducts, which in the first phases of development are permeable (embryos of 5-13 mm), constantly undergo a process of obstruction and posterior recanalization of their lumen, which takes place when they are from 14 to 22 mm. These processes begin in the middle zone of the ureters and progress proximally and distally until they cover its entire length, for which these ducts, which in embryos of approximately 17 mm in length form solid cords, but in the embryos of 23 mm are totally permeable. This obstructive process is found in relation to atrophy and loss of activity of the mesonephros, while that of recanalization follows the intense longitudinal growth of the ureters in this phase of development. These modifications, which the ureteric lumen normally undergoes during its embryonic development, are of great importance for correct interpretation of the pathogenic mechanism of congenital ureteric strictures and valves.

Zirconium-oxygen alloys containing between 0.02 and 1.05 at.% oxygen were prepared by engassing β-Zr at 1500°C followed by an anneal at 800°C. Conventional stress-strain measurements as well as strain-rate-change tests were made. The yield point was determined in the range from 77 to 500 K for wire samples with an α-Zr bamboo structure, and the hardening coefficient, Ar/AC, was found to vary from 0.52 m at 77 K to 0.36 μ at 300 K. Observations with the electron microscope under weak-beam conditions demonstrated the presence of clusters inside the Zr matrix. For the temperature range 0–500 K, two rate-controlling mechanisms are indicated. Below approximately 300 K, the flow stress is composed of a temperature dependent component, caused by the interaction between dislocations and single, interstitial oxygen atoms, and a temperature-independent contribution due to an interaction with stable oxygen clusters. Above about 300 K, the onset of plastic deformation is determined by the overcoming of clusters.

The effect of various coumarins on the active transport of galactose by small intestine in chick and rat was studied, using the in vivo technique of sucessive absorptions. A 10(-4) M concentration of the different coumarins inhibits the absorption of galactose in the chick. This effect persists in successive absorptions without coumarin. In rat, inhibition of galactose active transport by coumarins was observed at 10(-3) M concentration.

A comparison was made of the D-galactose uptake by rat, hamster and chicken intestine utilizing calcium-containing or calcium-free incubation fluid. The Wilson-Wiseman technique was employed. Qualitative differences were found in the response of the different intestines to calcium requirements as regards sugar active transport. No significant differences were observed in oxygen consumption.
