The library programs for children discussed in this report include: a suggested program for an art club, creative drama, film programs, hobby times, music programs, puppet programs, storytelling, and programs for special days and special events. The problems faced by 3 rural communities in Mississippi are identified, and their development programs are analyzed. Data were collected from 3 nonmetropolitan, multicounty centers, located in 3 distinct geographic regions of Mississippi. The 3 major analytical and data collecting concepts used were actions or programs; associations, organizations, and groups; and actors, community participants or leaders, following the interactional conception of community. The communities were described in terms of demographic characteristics, problems facing the community, and development programs. The 2 dimensions of community participation considered were the scope and extent of participation in development programs. It was determined that the most important agency for coordinating development programs in all 3 communities was the local Chamber of Commerce and that good communities are made possible by the willingness of people and their leaders to face challenges and create for themselves what they need. It was suggested that factors like leadership structure, strategy of program development, style of action, and relationships between community organizations need to be taken into account in explaining the success of development programs in some communities and failure in others. THE 16 CONTEMPORARY TELUGU SELECTIONS IN THIS READER WERE SELECTED TO ACQUAINT THE STUDENT WITH A VARIETY OF POPULAR LITERARY STYLES AND TECHNIQUES WHILE INSTRUCTING HIM EFFICIENTLY IN IMPORTANT READING SKILLS. ALL TELUGU MATERIAL IS WRITTEN IN DEVANAGARI SCRIPT. A BRIEF INTRODUCTION AND SHORT PARAGRAPHS CONCERNING EACH AUTHOR ARE WRITTEN IN ENGLISH. THE AUTHORS HAVE TRIED TO EXPOSE THE STUDENT EARLY AND REPEATEDLY TO THOSE FEATURES OF THE LANGUAGE WHICH OCCUR MOST FREQUENTLY. IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THE MOST FREQUENT FEATURES OF THESE SELECTIONS, THE ENTIRE TEXT WAS FED INTO A HIGH-SPEED ELECTRONIC COMPUTER AND ANALYZED FOR FREQUENCY. THE ABSOLUTE AND RELATIVE FREQUENCIES WERE DETERMINED FOR EACH LEXICAL WORD IN THE TEXT, AS WELL AS FOR SOME 90 INFLECTIONAL AFFIXES. A SPECIALLY DEVELOPED FORMULA WAS APPLIED TO ASSIGN TO EACH SELECTION A "SCORE" BASED ON THE LENGTH OF THE SELECTION, THE RELATIVE FREQUENCY OF THE WORDS AND AFFIXES IT CONTAINED, AND THE PROPORTION OF HIGH-FREQUENCY WORDS AND AFFIXES IT CONTAINED. ON THE BASIS OF THESE SCORES, THE SELECTIONS WERE ARRANGED IN THE ORDER IN WHICH THEY APPEAR IN THIS READER. IN THE EARLIER READINGS LOW-FREQUENCY WORDS WERE REPLACED WITH HIGH-FREQUENCY EQUIVALENTS AND THE INTRODUCTION OF CERTAIN DIFFICULT AND LESS FREQUENT GRAMMATICAL MATERIAL WAS POSTPONED UNTIL LATER IN THE TEXT. BY THE END OF THE EIGHTH STORY, MOST OF THE GRAMMAR USED IN THE TEXT HAS BEEN INTRODUCED, LEAVING THE SECOND HALF OF THE TEXT FOR REINFORCEMENT, ADDITIONAL VOCABULARY, AND IMPROVEMENT OF THE STUDENT'S READING EFFICIENCY. ADDITIONAL VOLUMES IN THIS SERIES INCLUDE A NEWSPAPER READER (AL 000 905) AND A GLOSSARY FOR BOTH READERS (AL 000 906). (JD)

THE 31 SELECTIONS IN THIS READER WERE TAKEN FROM THE PAGES OF A NUMBER OF DAILY AND WEEKLY TELUGU NEWSPAPERS. THEY WERE SELECTED TO ACQUAINT THE STUDENT WITH A VARIETY OF TYPES OF JOURNALISTIC WRITING IN TELUGU WHILE INSTRUCTING HIM IN IMPORTANT READING SKILLS. THE MATERIAL HAS BEEN GRADED FOR DIFFICULTY AND INCLUDES A VARIETY OF SUBJECTS. THE PREPARATION OF THIS READER WAS SIMILAR TO THAT OF "GRADED READINGS IN MODERN LITERARY TELUGU--PRELIMINARY EDITION" (AL 000 904). A COMPUTER WAS USED IN ARRANGING THE SELECTIONS BY RELATIVE DIFFICULTY. AGAIN, THE FIRST HALF OF THE READER INTRODUCES MAJOR GRAMMATICAL POINTS WHICH ARE THEN REINFORCED IN THE SECOND HALF. THE ACCOMPANYING GLOSSARY (AL 000 906) GIVES THE ENGLISH EQUIVALENT FOR THE TELUGU MATERIAL PRESENTED HERE IN DEVANAGARI. (JD)

The hypoethsis that Ss in two incompatible affection groups would gain significantly more on dimensions of self-actualization than Ss in two compatible affection groups was supported. (Author)

As result of a four day T Group, significant gains were made on Barrett-Lennard Relationship Inventory. Three months later ratings by clients of group members revealed number of significant correlations. (Author)

Significant positive changes in self actualization were attained in members of both intensive residential sensitivity training laboratories and nonintensive nonresidential sensitivity training laboratories. Affection compatibility was the prime interpersonal variable associated with self actualization gains. (Author)
