The wood of Flindersia ifflaiana F. Muell. contains ifflaionic acid, a new triterpene acid, and ifflaiamine, a new alkaloid. The latter has a modified furoquinoline structure, shown to be (I). Some experiments on the synthesis of 4-hydroxy-2-quinolone and derivatives are described.

From the wood of Gevillea striata R. Br., a phenol, striatol, C28H42O4, was isolated. Chemical and spectroscopic evidence indicated its structure to be 1,14-bis(3,5-dihydroxy-4-methylphenyl)tetradecane. The structure was confirmed by synthesis.

The isolation and characterization of 19 new alkaloids from the bark of Galbulimima species is described. After some corrections to previous work, the number of alkaloids from this source now stands at 28.

The structure (III) proposed for the hexacyclic alkaloid, himgaline, on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic characterization was confirmed by several partial syntheses of himgaline derivatives from de-N-methylhimbadine (alkaloid G.B. 13). The biogenesis of the Galbulimima alkaloids is discussed.

The structures of himbadine (I) and its de-N-methyl derivative (II), alkaloid G.B. 13, proposed on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic characterization were confirmed by several partial syntheses from the ester alkaloid, himandrine (III), of known structure.

By means of spectroscopic and chemical correlations the structures of the remaining 13 ester alkaloids from Galbulimima species were assigned. Together with himandridine and himbosine these alkaloids form a new family.

There is given a description of a Computer System designed to monitor the condition of the Main Engine and certain auxiliaries, as well as predict the future date of recommended maintenance.
