The genus Leiofusawas established in 1938 by Eisenackand the family Leiofusidae, proposed at the same time, was later expanded by the inclusion of LunulidiaEisenack, 1958, MetaleiofusaWall, 1965, DactylofusaBritoet Santos, 1965, PseudolunulidiaBritoet Santos, 1965, PoïkilofusaStaplin, Jansoniuset Pocock, 1965 and LeiovaliaEisenack, 1965a. In addition we propose Navifusa. A critical evaluation of these several taxa and of the 36 species assigned to them takes into consideration the morphographic definition of the Netromorphitae Downie, Evittet Sarjeant, 1963, but restricts itself entirely to the Leiofusidae, for which a new definition is presented. A table indicates the stratigraphic range of each species in the so far known world-wide distribution; some paleobiological and paleoecological remarks complete this evaluation, and a detailed bibliography is attached.
