The article presents the geological history of the Dovey Estuary and the Adjoining Flats. During the glacial period the valley and estuary were occupied by ice which came down from the Ordovician range of Cader Idris and Aran Mawddwy. It also indicates that the western boundary of the Flats is formed by a storm-beach which extends northwards from the cliffs near North for two or three miles. The article also stresses that the geological history of the estuaries on the west coast of Great Britain is imperfectly known.
