The article focuses on the introduction of handwork training of students at the Chicago Institute in Chicago, Illinois. Primarily, the training will be the making of various objects for use in the home, especially the things to be used for Christmas gifts. Such work is considered to be valuable in the opportunity for the cultivation of the relation between the school work and the home interests of the children, as well as for the awakening their interest in the furnishing and decorating of their own homes. In this activity, the choice of the things to be made rests upon the students themselves, rather than with the teacher.

A partnership for educational progress has been formed between the American educational system and the life insurance business. The Educational Division, Institute of Life Insurance, represents the life insurance business in this partnership. This article explains the work of this Division and its two major programs: (1) Teaching Aids and Services, which supplies information and teaching aids on life and health insurance to teachers and students in the schools, and (2) Education in Family Finance, which trains educators through summer workshops and in-service programs to be more effective in teaching personal and family finance. Following a description of each of these programs is a brief summary of the tasks facing the Educational Division and a perspective concerning the future of family finance education. This article discusses various articles, published in the May 1968 issue of the journal "The American Economic Review." The articles written by professors William H. Cooper and Robbin R. Hough deal with the problems of data collection and the role of academics in the data collection process. Cooper strikes a sensitive cord. Much of what Cooper has seen and heard in the shacks of the rural poor, the author has experienced in urban slums and the Mississippi Delta. In the author's opinion, Cooper is well aware that generalizations from clinical experiences must be cautiously made and tested by less personal techniques. But one thing comes through quite strongly, that much of what is asked of low-income respondents in federal surveys does not sufficiently overlap their life-space. Hough in his article laments the fact that academics are not sufficiently involved in the design of administrative statistical systems and do not have ready access to the output of such system. He has put his finger on one of the reasons why a stronger alliance between academics and bureaucrats may be fruitful.

The article focuses on the inter-university program in four upstate universities in New York namely Buffalo, Cornell, Rochester, and Syracuse. The inter-university program is composed of two parts: inter-university program in teacher and administrator education. It consists of two projects: experimental program for the preparation of secondary school teachers and administrative internship. This experimental program is being administered by a coordinator responsible to the four education deans and working closely with the project staff.

The article suggests what can be done by the non-teaching members of the American Marketing Association (AMA) to help improve the teaching of marketing courses. A series of suggestions are presented which may improve educators' understanding and awareness of marketing related problems. Plans for bringing business closer to teaching will likely improve students' overall experience. Business people are asked to collect solved and unsolved problems, so they may be studied in marketing classes. Each chapter of the AMA is asked to broaden its membership to include a more diverse group of business people.

The article presents the book "Partnership in Teacher Education," which was published based on the result obtained from the summer workshop conducted by the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education's Subcommittee on School-College Relations and the Association for Student Teaching. The book was conceived and written just as the major federal legislation on educational reform was being passed and put into operation. Neither the book nor the federal programs felt the impact of the social upheaval happened in the late sixties. A new definition of partnership in teacher education has been developed because of these social upheavals.

However, citing the need for closer school-community relationships are often mistaken for pleasant-sounding professorial luxuries. Examination of educational practices by interested laymen and educators has exposed a higher degree of educational hypocrisy than usually expected. It is noted that institutions of higher education can help public secondary schools initiate responsible cooperative school-community participation.

The article discusses the message of William M. Cruickshank president of the International Council for Exceptional Children (ICEC) to the members of the Council. Cruickshank is soliciting the support of the members to help the executive secretary, officers, and board of directors of the Council, to make 1953 a banner year, and in return, the council pledges their best effort. The president stresses that the Council is playing an important role in progress toward public recognition of the principle that equal opportunity in education should be within reach of all, and take credit for the gains that have been made in special education, health, and welfare services to the exceptional children.

The article reports developments related to teacher education in Kentucky. Robert R. Martin, state superintendent of public instruction, has appointed a committee that will study the certification process. A regional conference involving the state, Indiana, Ohio, and Tennessee will be held in Louisville on December 12 and 13, 1957. The in-service teacher education program, which started since July 1, 1950, will be expanded and will be tied closely to pre-service teacher preparation starting July 1, 1956. The professors of academic subjects, professors of education, and the administrators in both areas are collaborating to improve the programs of preparation-certification in the areas of science and mathematics, music, English, guidance, and art.

The article presents news about the Colleges of the Institute of Management Sciences (TIMS). All TIMS Colleges have been requested to appoint a Bulletin Correspondent in an effort to assist communications between the Colleges. The growth of the College of Logistics has been positive, with good representation from the government, business, and academic sectors. The College of Management Philosophy has planned a seminar to be held September 10, 1965 at the 12th International Meeting of TIMS.

The article reports developments in the educational system in West Virginia. In 1956, the Concord College in Athens, West Virginia and the Mercer County Board of Education have jointly carried on a program for the improvement of the teaching of elementary music in the county's public schools. The in-service training cooperation was organized by Russell Falt of the College's Music Department and Richard Wellock, the director of music at the county. Also, the Concord College has started the planning for and teaching of classroom teaching to one or more classes near the beginning of each semester.
