The social class, ethnicity, and sex of graduates in Quebec's Colleges of General and Professional Education (CEGEPs) were studied in relationship to course of study and subsequent work or educational activities. Findings showed no clearcut patterns of ethnic or social class differences in choice of specialization. Disparities in social class varied with ethnicity. (JT)

Anticipated improvements in the educational level of the Nation's labor force, projected to the year 1985, are discussed and illustrated by tables and charts. These present data concerning the following: years of school completed by persons 25 years old and over in the civilian labor force, by sex and race, 1950 to 1985; projected educational attainment of the civilian force 25 years old and over, by age and sex, 1975, 1980, and 1985; percent of persons in population and civilian labor force with 4 years of high school or more, by age and sex, selected years; percent of persons 25 and over in civilian labor force with 4 years of high school or more, by age, race, and sex, selected years; percent of men and women 25 and over in civilian labor force with 4 years or more of college, by age, selected years; projected educational attainment of the white civilian labor force 25 years old and over, by age and sex, 1975, 1980, and 1985; and projected educational attainment of the Negro and other races civilian labor force 25 years old and over, by age and sex, 1975, 1980, and 1985. A continued upgrading to 1985 is predicted as the educational attainment of whites and Negroes, men and women, converges toward a median of 12.6 years. (DB)

This document presents the case for the use of situational reinforcement (SR) as a language teaching method of which all teachers of languages should be made aware. SR is defined as a horizontal approach to language learning, a process of gradual familiarization where students are presented with a mixture of language structures from the outset; these structures are taught in natural contexts based initially on concrete classroom and social situations, the situations becoming increasingly abstract as the student progresses. The expressed theoretical basis of this approach is that people generate language based on what they already know and continually abstract and revise internalized grammar rules from the input they receive. Section one of the document describes this philosophy and the goals of SR. The second section presents the history of SR. Included in this section is a comparison of SR with the traditional "pattern practice" method of teaching language. The final section summarizes research related to SR. (JA)

A total of 240 students read transcripts of a case against a student who stole his examination, in violation of a specific Nigerian government decree directed at students, and then rated the person on several items. Results showed that girls violated the decree from anxiety over failure; boys, from anxiety over failure and motivation to achieve. Perceived consequence had no effect. (Author/LBH)

Study devised and tested a method for group administration of the Bender-Gestalt Test that would be feasible for screening large groups of beginning school-age children. This reference book catalogues nearly every commercial film produced in Britain for public entertainment from 1895 to 1970. The entries are listed chronologically by year and month. Each entry is limited to a single film and contains a cross index code number, exhibition date, main title, length, color system, production company, distribution company, producer, director, story type and source, main cast names, and a summary of the plot, as well as other information. The data listed for each film were obtained, primarily, through secondary sources. The index lists the film titles in alphabetical order with cross-index code numbers. The selection category of "British Film" was construed broadly to include films produced jointly by British companies and those from other countries. (CH)

Describes a set of experiments for an undergraduate laboratory which demonstrates the relationship between velocity, mass, and temperature in a gas. The experimental method involves time-of-flight measurements on atoms excited to metastable states by electron impact. Effects resulting from recoil in the electron-atom collision can also be observed. A suitable apparatus for conducting the experiments is described. (Author/PR)
