Monochromaticity of laser emission in conjunction with the small angle of divergence (5-20') are very promising from the point of view of elimination of the effect of glow near bodies moving at high speeds, and the possibility of the forming of light beams of the required diameters with very good parallelism (about 30 seconds). At the same time, coherence of laser emissions able to cause undesirable interference phenomena which are superimposed on the image of the object being photographed, and the heterogeneous energy distribution across the beam can be an additional complication when using laser in shadow photography. This work is dedicated to research on the possibilities of using laser emission for the illumination of moving objects during their shadow photography. (Author)

A description is given of the steps involved in photographing bodies at hypersonic speeds.

The book deals with the principles of design, structural diagrams, and methods of technical improvement of multichannel discrete systems of information input into digital computers using linear, nonlinear, combination, and code signal separation. Classification of methods of signal separation with information input is proposed. The basic principles of coupling multichannel input systems with computers are discussed and possibilities of utilizing current communication systems are considered. New principles are proposed for address-code multiplexing channels for information input in computers. Potential practical applications of a quartz crystal for Q-switching of a laser resonator are investigated. Quartz is found to be superior to other materials in terms of optical homogeneity, mechanical stability, and nonhygroscopicity. The main output parameters of a laser employing a quartz Q-switch appear to be somewhat below those obtained from a laser featuring a KDP Q-switch. The 'giant' 10 Mw, 30 nsec pulses obtained experimentally proved stable with respect to amplitude, duration, and rise time, and thus showed the practical applicability of quartz for electrooptical shutters used in single-pulse lasers. It is still too early to compare the quartz with the KDP Q-switches as to efficiency. However, after work on it has been completed, the electrooptic quartz Q-switch will be capable of generating giant pulses in a ruby laser at least as effectively as does the KDP-crystal modulator. Object of the invention: Aerodynamic scales (windtunnel balance) for measuring small loads including a 'floating' frame suspended on a lever unit, equilibrized by the forces of the electromagnetic interaction of movable and fixed coils, which has the distinguishing feature that for the purpose of assuring high sensitivity and excluding error from the influence of the weight of the model and the movable elements, they are designed in the form of a statically balanced system of lever elements fastened on vertically arranged thread suspensions and provided with a set of coils equalizing the moments formed on the 'floating' frame from the forces of the measuring element and excluding the breaking of the threads of the suspension. Object of the invention: A device for measuring continuously varying pressure with a sensitive element designed in the form of a bellows or membrane connected to a string generator (slide-wire oscillator) which has the distinguishing feature that for the purpose of obtaining a linear dependence of the output parameter on the measurable value and continuous recording of the indications on an automatic writing device, in it there is used a feed voltage taken from the output of a string generator (slide-wire oscillator) driving a synchronous electric motor provided with a centrifugal regulator with the arm of which there is connected the pen of the automatic writing device.
