エチレン-プロピレンゴム (EPDM) としてU. S. Rubber社製のRoyalene200を用い, EPDMの熱安定性ならびに熱的挙動を検討する目的でいくつかの実験を試みた。質量分析を主として, 赤外吸収, 重量および示差熱分析により, EPDMの熱酸化成物, 熱分解生成物について検討した結果, EPDMは熱酸化においては橋かけよりも切断反応が優先し, 熱分解においてはプロピレン部分の分解がエチレン部分の分解に優先して起こることがわかった。

Coulometry was examined with several kinds of microelectrodes. A solution (50 ml) containing 5 x 10/sup -3/ F Hg(NO/sub 3/)/sub 2/-0.1F HNO/sub 3/ and 103 mu C Co/sup 60/ was the best among the solutions examined. Electrolysis was performed at the controlled potential of -1.50 v. To determine the amounts of cobalt electroreduced to the metallic state, gamma rays from Co/sup 60/ were utilized and were measured with a scintillation counter. From the results, it was found that the weight of cobalt deposited or the quantity of electricity passing through the electrode could be determined with a sensitivity of 2.87 x 10/ sup -8/ g Co or 0.94 x 10/sup -4/ coulombs. トリフェニルスルホニウムイオンのポーラログラムは, 0.1mol/l塩化カリウム支持, 対飽和甘コウ電極で-1.5Vに一つの極大波を有し, Tween-80でもって極大を抑制すると2段の還元波を示す。この還元波の電極界面における還元過程を検討するため, 瞬間電流一時間曲線を観測し, 電流の性格を吟味したうえ, ポーラログラフを使う微量クーロメトリーで還元電子数を求め, 定電位電解を行なって電解還元生成物の分析を行なった。トリフェニルスルホニウムイオンのポーラログラムで示す限界電流は, 拡散律速に基づくものであり, 還元電子数は2であること, また電解還元生成物がジフニニルスルフィド, ベンゼン, そしてビフユニルであることを確認した。なお2段の還元波の1段目と2段目の波高の比が1:1であるところから, 電極過程を推定した。

A series of experiments have been continued in order to realize the silvicultural management for the prevention of forest damage caused by the weight of snow crown. This paper deals with the study about the snow crown on the trees of Japanese larch, during the snow season of 1964-1965.The equipment of experiment is shown in Photo. 1 and 2.As the result, following points were made clear : The process of snow crown on Japanese larch was similar to that on Japanese cedar, but the crowned state did not continue over a few days. The maximum quantity of snow crown, in the ordinary conditions of snowfall, occurred on the case when the amount of precipitation was about 20 mm.

The semiconductor material powder of group IV, V or VI elements, or compound semiconductor like as Sb2S3, PbS etc., is added in 1F ammonium chloride solution. Under stirring the solution, polarographic current-potential curve shows a catalytic hydrogen wave which is characteristic according to the species of the semiconductor used. The decomposition potential of catalytic hydrogen wave due to semiconductor which has much smaller work function than that of mercury does not appear at the more positive potentials than the case of the absence of semiconductor powder. In other words, such semiconductor gives no catalytic hydrogen wave. The greater the work function of semiconductor used is, the more positive potentials the decomposition potential of a catalytic hydrogen wave is. The height of catalytic hydrogen wave is higher with smaller work function of semiconductor used. The present paper also reports the trial of electronic explanation of the catalytic nature based on the energy band model of semiconductor and a model on the surface of mercury electrode as well as on the surface of the semiconductor in aqueous ammonium chloride solution.

The study area, including the Kubiki and the Togakushi mountain, is situated at northern part of the central Honshu, Japan.The social organization of the Mpine Accenter, Prunella collaris, was studied by means of ringing the birds and observing behaviors of the birds on the top of Mt. Myoko (2446m. altitude) at the Kubiki mountain range in summer and autumn, 1968 and 1969. The birds exhibited a series of breeding activities from June to August. At the time of courting and copulating, a bird (perhaps a male bird) had a territory including one or more crags in its center. The border of the territory was not distinct, so it was difficult to calculate the size of the territory.Nesting was made in the territory. At the breeding season the birds were observed as a unit of a pair, consisting of an adult male and a female, and as a solitary individual. In August, after leaving nest, a family flock was appeared, which consisting of a pair and their youngs which were one or two in most cases. Moving traces of a solitary bird and a family flock seemed to avoid a territory.Members of the birds appeared on the top of the mountain, changed at several times between late August and early November, when the birds left. During this period, agonistic behavior was observed between adult individuals when the birds got too near each other, and the feeding of an adult bird to a young was also seen. The bonds of the birds seemed to be a family flock and a solitary.At the Tsubame Spa where the birds wintered mid-November to early April every year, a family flock with three birds, one of which was young, appeared serially in winter 1968 and 1969. In the second winter, the individual which in the previous winter had been young, showed distinctly different moving traces from the one of other two birds which seemed to be a pair. So, this young bird seemed to become a solitary.The breeding sites of the birds in the study area were discovered only on the tops of Mt. Myoko and Mt. Yakeyama (2400 m. altiutde) at the Kubiki mountain range. No Alpine Accenter was found at the Togakushi mountain range. The environmental conditions that there are wide range of crags and semi-bald land patched with short grass and shrub, are common to two mountain tops where the birds breed. After breeding, in late August and September, the birds appeared at other mountain tops, Mt. Hiuchi (2462 m), and Mt. Kanayama (2230 m), but in October and early November the birds disappeared except on the top of Mt. Myoko.

Artificial production of somatic mutations by radiations is a promising method for obtaining novelties in vegetatively propagated plants. The present authors report about their irradiation experiments carried out in various developmental stages of the bulbs which produced several somatic mutations. The alteration process of the mutants in successive seasons after irradiation was examined, and a practical technique for breeding concerned with the time of irradiation and selection was investigated. The results are summarized as follows ; ( 1 ) Irradiation effects on bulbils before flowering time were examined. By irradiation from March to April, a large change of color spreading over 2∼3 perianth segments was obtained in tho second season. By earlier irradiation from December to February, the bulbil growth was markedly inhibited, and the bulb did not flower in the second season. ( 2 ) Bulbs with entirely changed perianth were obtained in the second season after irradiation in August or in the third season after irradiation in September. ( 3 ) When the perianth was entirely changed the mutant character appeared in the next season, while when the change was partial almost no sign of mutation was observed. ( 4 ) The change of flower color was fairly common, but several different mutants could be recognized which may represent new forms not previously known in tulip. ( 5 ) Alteration process was observed in the variety Athleet (white) during seven seasons after irradiation. Entire change was obtained in the third season in various characters, and was tested by propagation. The dwarf type threw off normals in seventh season, while the majority of the others, including flower color, striped leaves and laciniated petals have maintained the mutant characten through four vegetative propagations after selection. The results mentioned above show that it is neccessary to select the entirely changed bulbs for the production of true bud mutants. These may be readily obtained if irradiation is carried out in the critical developmental stage of the bud.

Continuing the studies of catalytic hydrogen evolution on mercury cathodes, results are reported about the influence of cobalt(II) sulphide on the polarographic hydrogen wave in ammonia ammonium chloride buffer. The influence of the concentration of thioacetamide and of the kind of supporting electrolyte on polarograms and instantaneous current-time curves is discussed. Furthermore, the gas evolving from a mercury pool cathode by controlled potential electrolysis was detected and identified. A mechanism of the catalytic action of cobalt(II) sulphide is proposed.

従来の漢字用入出力機器に共通している経済性の問題の解決に焦点を絞り, 新しい方式の漢字ディスプレイ装置の開発を計画し, 設計を行なった.すなわち, 経済性の点から第一に問題となる文字発生器を多数端末で共同利用するようにし, さらに表示端末には家庭用テレビ受像機を使用可能にした.そのために, 画面のリフレッシュ用メモリーに画像メモリーが必要となったが, video scan converter がこの目的に充分使えることを確かめた.

A comparative observation of the weights of snow crown was made on test larch trees 15, 25, 42 and 53 years in age. As a result of the comparison of the weights of snow crown in terms of load per unit area shaded by crown, any difference in weight of snow crown due to the difference in tree age could not be ascertained clearly, and as far as the 15, 25 and 42 years old trees are concerned, the weight of snow crown seemed to increase or decrease in relation to the length of branches and twigs. In the case of the 53 years old tree showing the largest weight of snow crown among all the test trees, it was found that drooping of limbs with increasing weight of snow crown was slow and the duration in and near a drooped condition when the unit shaded area becomes largest was by far longer than other test trees younger in age.

Ameripole CB (polybutadieneとして), Califlex IR 305 (polyisopreneとして) の二種のステレオラバーについて, 質量分析法による検出の可能性を検討した結果, 熱分解によりそれぞれのmonomerが生成されるので充分検出可能であることを確認した.さらに, 熱酸化反応を検討する目的で, 熱酸化前後の熱分解生成ガスを比較検討した.その結果polyisopreneの方がはるかに熱酸化を受けやすく, また熱酸化により-OH, C=Oの生成が認められたが, 特にこのC=Oは今までketone, aldehyde typeであるといわれているが, 本実験においてはperester, peracid typeのC=Oの生成も認められた.

テトラフエニルボロナトリウムを試薬とし塩化ナトリウムを支持電解質として,対極に銀-塩化銀電極を用い,トリフェニルスルホニウム・クロライド,トリフェニルセレノニウム・クロライドおよびテトラフェニルポスホニウム・クロライドの電流滴定を試み,いずれも±3%の滴定誤差内で滴定可能なことを認めた.さらに沈殿の溶解度積を滴定曲線より概算し10-8桁の値を得た.

In continuation of our studies of the Brdicka catalytic wave of hydrogen it became necessary to know more about the electrode reaction which produces the catalytic wave due to sulf hydryl groups in the presence of the ammoniacal buffered cobalt solution. The most delicate point in the interpretation of the whole catalytic electrode process involved in the polarographic "protein wave" consists in the elucidation of the role of cobalt. Therefore, the present study has been conducted in order to examine the following three points ; 1) How does the net reduction of cobalt ion take place during the period of its own maximum wave? 2) The cobaltous wave is shifted to more positive potentials by the presence of cystine or serum protein and under some conditions it becomes into two steps. During the period of such cobalt wave, how does the net reduction of cobalt ion take place? 3) During the period of the catalytic wave, how does the net reduction of cobalt ion take place?In the present investigation, the measurements of the net amounts of reduced cobalt are carried out by the method of radiometric polarography using Love's method' after improving several points. Radioactivity per one drop of mercury divided by drop time is plotted against the applied potential. Thus, the radioactivity-potential curve illustrates the net reduction of cobalt ion to form amalgam and can be compared with the corresponding ordinary polarogram finding no special reduction of cobalt during the period of the catalytic wave of hydrogen.

The purpose of this investigation is to make clear the states of snow cover in the heavy-snow area of which Cryptomeria japonica-trees are damaged by snow pressure very often. Gomisawa Plantation, young stands of C. japonica is in the heavy- snow area of Niigata Prefecture. On the various topographic places of this plantation, maximum snow cover depth, snow pressures and the vertical section of snow cover were investigation in the snow seasons of the years 1965-1969. The results are as follows : 1) The course of snow cover depth during each winter at Gomisawa has a strong resemblance to that of Tokamachi Site.2) It seems that the heavy-snow year over 500 cm in maximum depth on the flat stand occurred five times within last twenty years.3) It is estimated that the duration of continuous snow cover range 160-190 days on the flat stand.4) The maximum snow cover depths are considerably changed with topography, wind direction and climatic condition in each winter. They range from 310 to 750 cm or more in the heavy-snow year, and from 290 to 470 cm in the year of small depth. In addition, always they are shallow on the windward slopes, and are deep on the leeward slopes. Therefore, the snow pressures on inclined stands show remarkably large values onthe leeward slopes. The settling pressures of snow on flat stands range from 2.4 to 3.0 times as great as those of Tokamachi Site.The states of snow cover mentioned above are closely related with the damage of the forests.
