This technical memorandum consists of two computer reports which represent the essential information in the Task Analysis Data Base.

Abstract

An in-flight simulation to investigate minimum longitudinal stability for large delta-wing transports in landing approach and touchdown (including ground effect) was conducted using the USAF/Calspan Total In-Flight Simulator (TIFS) airplane. The airplane nonlinear equations of motion, as well as the representation of the engine characteristics and the control system used in this in-flight investigation are presented. Details of the simulation or representative piloting tasks for the landing approach (e.g., artificial crosswind landing) are described. Detailed pilot comments, touchdown parameters, measures of turbulence and pilot workload obtained during the in-flight evaluation are included in this report. (Modified author abstract)

4. Preliminary Handling Qualities Requirements for Lifting Re-Entry Vehicles during Terminal Flight

Abstract

Preliminary handling qualities requirements for lifting re-entry vehicles during terminal flight at low supersonic, transonic, and subsonic speeds are presented and discussed. Included are a preliminary draft of a flying qualities specification for piloted re-entry vehicles and the rationale and backup data upon which the flying qualities requirements are based. Many of the requirements were adapted from, or are similar to, the requirements for piloted airplanes presented in the latest revision of the flying qualities specification for military airplanes, MIL-F-8785B(ASG). Some requirements that are new and unique to lifting re-entry vehicles have been added. The format of the specification is similar to that of MIL-F-8785B(ASG), therefore, comparison of flying qualities requirements of lifting re-entry vehicles and airplanes is facilitated. These flying qualities requirements are preliminary and subject to revisions based on future research and additional discussions with interested contractors and government agencies.

8. The Radioisotope Renogram: A Comparison of Qualitative and Quantitative Interpretation

Abstract

To determine whether interpretations of radioisotope renograms by qualitative visual inspection were reproducible, a total of 60 randomly assembled renograms, including those of 13 patients with proved unilateral renal hypertension, were subjected to reinterpretation by the initial observer. Fifty-six of the interpretations were in complete agreement. All 13 cases of renovascular hypertension were correctly identified both times. When two quantitative methods of interpretation were applied to renograms of the group with unilateral renal hypertension, diagnostic accuracy was significantly decreased.

Abstract

To the Editor.—In reference to the article by Mazzullo et al (227:929, 1974) concerning the variation of interpretations of prescription instructions, there certainly is a need for physicians to be more explicit in their instructions so as to reduce hazardous misunderstandings.Yet, a vital and convenient source to improve patient compliance is the pharmacist. At the time of filling the patient's prescription, the pharmacist can reinforce the instructions of the physician or serve as a primary instructor in those circumstances in which the prescriber gave few or none. Many pharmacists now maintain medication profiles as a further guide for monitoring an individual's drugs for compliance and drug interactions. Favorable results of pharmacists' involvement in drug monitoring have been exemplified by McKenney et al,1 showing that such patients had significantly better control of hypertension.As an example, we mention an existing program currently being used at the Ohio State
