Abstract

This article examines the fibrinolytic activity and the influence on the blood clotting mechanism of Aspergillin O in vivo and compares its activity with that of trypsin under uniform experimental conditions. Aspergillin O, a purified extract from filtrates of cultures of Aspergillus oryzae B-2173, exhibits proteolytic, fibrinolytic and esterase activity in vitro. Experiments in vivo have indicated that the infusion of 10 mg of aspergillin O per kg of body weight in the general circulation of dogs reestablishes the blood flow through venous segments 48 hours after their occlusion by thrombi produced with sodium morrhuate. Aspergillin O was prepared from liquid cultures of Aspergillus oryzae B-2173. All preparations were lyophilized and stored at -20 degrees celsius until used. The comparative activity in vitro of trypsin and aspergillin O was established in terms of their ability to digest casein by using the method of Kunitz and a series of dilutions of the materials being investigated.

Abstract

The spontaneous and base-catalysed isomerization of 1-tosylazocyclohexene to yield cyclohex-2-enone tosylhydrazone has been studied in benzene, dioxan, chlorobenzene, and anisole. In benzene solution, the effectiveness of tertiary amines in catalysing the reaction is roughly proportional to their pKa measured in water, and related to a consistent decrease in the activation energy. The catalytic activity of triethylamine is solvent-dependent and increases in the order: benzene < dioxan < chlorobenzene < anisole. The uncatalysed reaction is, however, only slightly sensitive to solvent changes. For the base-catalysed reaction, a mechanism is suggested, involving the release of one allylic proton from the cyclohexene ring in a slow step.

Abstract

About the presence of two varieties of Ranunculus bullatus L. Karyological and ecological observations in subjects of Sardinia. — In the present paper ecological and cytotaxonomical observations in two varieties of the Ranunculus bullatus L.: Ranunculus bullatus L. ssp. eu-bullatus Maire var. plantagineus (Jord. et Fourr.) Maire and Ranunculus bullatus L. ssp. eu-bullatus Maire var. supranudus (Jord. et Fourr.) Maire have been carried out. The two entities are indifferent to any rocky substratum and they settle on thin and half-arid muddy-sandy soil. The caryological analysis show the coincidence of the two karyotypes and the attribution of the somatic differences to the natural intraspecific variability. The karyotype formula of each variety is: z=2n=16 = 2L1+2L2+2L32M1+2M2+2M3+2M4+2M2 5.
