The conventional textbook approach to English, at Saint Augustine's Secondary School in Glasgow, was replaced with an anthological project--a class newspaper. To prevent plagiarism and to stimulate creative thought, students were asked to use April 1, 1984, as the publication date. Initially, the class was divided into six groups to represent the various sections of a newspaper; later, this formal organization was relaxed to permit more individualized work. In addition to his normal reporting duties, a staff member was required to review a TV show, a film, or a book every 2 weeks. The teacher, with the writer in attendance, generally scrutinized every fifth exercise, and samples of good and bad writing were regularly duplicated and evaluated in class. This study used 889 eleventh grade students and 70 vocational education students enrolled in cooperative education programs to determine the influence of internal and external control of reinforcement upon participation and learning in vocational education. Resultant findings include: (1) Sex was not a determinant of externality. The internal-external variable did not exert a differential effect upon male and female students, (2) Students who view reinforcement as being contingent upon their own behavior (internals), recall more directly and indirectly related occupational information than students who view reinforcement as being dependent upon others (externals), and (3) Internals recal more short-term directly and indirectly related occupational information in vocational cooperative education when measured by a modified true-false recall test. Following intravenous administration, the myocardial concentration of tracer thallium-201, potassium-43, and rubidium-81 were determined in mice; thallium was present in the greatest concentration in the myocardium (2.08% compared 1.25% for potassium and 1.15% for rubidium at 10 minutes). The regional myocardial distribution of thallium-201 was determined in dogs under conditions of normal flow, and total occlusion, and compared with potassium-43 (r=0.97). The regional distribution of thallium-201 was compared to microspheres under conditions of partial occlusion and reactive hyperemia (r=0.97). Thallium-201 was evaluated in a series of phantom scans, which demonstrated that the low energy X-ray of thallium was suitable for imaging. These results suggest that thallium-201 can be used for the evaluation of the distribution of regional myocardial perfusion.

Fifteen different programs were used to compute the pressure differences, forces, and moments on the same two wings in steady subsonic flow. These results were compared with each other and with experimental data available for these two wings. For nine of the programs the predictions for these two wings were found generally to be in close agreement with each other and with the experimental results. The predictions of four of the remaining programs showed moderate differences; whereas, the predictions of the remaining two programs showed significant differences.
