DIELECTRICS , *LAMB waves - Abstract
This paper describes a method for determining the equivalent permittivity and permeability of artificial dielectrics at microwave frequencies existing in the form of planar slabs. The method uses a parallel plate waveguide partially filled with the artificial dielectric. The guide wavelengths along this structure are measured for two different spacings between parallel plates, by moving a probe in an unfilled portion of the structure. Permittivity and permeability of the artificial dielectric are calculated from the measured values of guided wavelengths of the structure. In this method the reflection of power in the feeding waveguide does not affect the calculation. Therefore rectangular slabs of artificial dielectric supported by frames at the edges could be used.
Experiments at X-band frequencies using a phase-advance artificial dielectric consisting of a set of arrays of wires are reported. Results obtained by this method are in close agreement with the designed values. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published
