Quantities associated with soft X-ray emission, the work function, the pseudopotential and Compton profiles for body centred cubic (b.c.c.) and face centred cubic (f.c.c.) lithium crystals have been calculated in the Hartree-Fock approximation of Kumar, Monkhorst and Harris (Phys. Rev. B1974). The width of the occupied part of the valence band is calculated too large by about 3 eV. Combination of soft X-ray emission and work function data indicates the bottom of the valence band is at nearly the correct position. It is found that the energy dependence of the transition dipole matrix element cannot explain prepeaking below the Fermi edge of the soft X-ray line shape. A pseudopotential form factor v(q) is calculated in the on Fermi sphere approximation. Comparison with an 'experimental' pseudopotential reflects the importance of correlation effects for small q values and the correct lattice spacing for large q values.

Each month has been classified into six pentads and each day into four quarter-days; probable occurrences of thundery weather in each of these ones have been determined over Mohanbari aerodrome (North-east India). The duration of occurrences of thundery weather has been classified into five duration-groups and the probabilities that the thundery weather will belong to each of these groups have been calculated.

The best fit curves for upper air mean dry-bulb and dew-point temperatures over Gauhati airport (26°05′N, 91°43′E, 49 metres a.m.s.l.), for the month of April, have been calculated with the equation,x=A+By+Cy2,y being the log value in mb of the isobaric level under consideration andx, the mean dry-bulb or dew-point temperature as the case may be, at the isobaric level under consideration. The values of constantsA, B andC for morning dry-bulb and dew-point curves come to be −29.54559, −93.65766 and +37.35048 and −118.84791, −31.15503 and +25.63585 respectively and values of these constants for evening curves come to be −35.86214, −94.15694 and +38.61870 and −127.55970, −29.97192 and +26.36538 respectively. These best fit curves help in finding out mean desired temperatures at any isobaric level in forecasting of thunderstorms and hailstorms, at a station, by dry-bulb and dew-point temperature anomaly technique propsed earlier by the authors.

AnN/D calculation is performed for theP1/2,T = 3/2 lowenergy π-N scattering amplitude, using the method of Balazs. The method is, as such, less successful in yielding quantitative agreement with the experimental data, than it is in the case ofN and thes-wave scattering length forT=3/2. Some modifications that may improve the present result, are discussed.

A dynamical calculation is performed for the Ω - in the ΞK - →ΞK - amplitude, using the N/D method. The forces considered are due to the ∑ exchange in the crossed channel, as well as the others arising from the far left-hand cut. The latter ones are dealt with in the manner of Balazs. It is seen that the Ω - can be generated self-consistently with a mass equal to about 1540 MeV.

Introduction: Imatinib mesylate has become the choice of drug in the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia. Objective: To study safety profile of Imatinib (specific inhibitor or bcrabl tryosne kinase protein) in Philadelphia chromosome t {(9:22), bcr-abl} positive chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) chronic phase patients. Materials and Methods: After IEC clearance, 36, BCR-ABL positive CML patients in the chronic phase of the disease were recruited. Imatinib mesylate (Gleevec, Novartis), was started (400mg daily) and followed up weekly in first month, two weekly till three months & monthly thereafter. Safety profile data, recorded in pre-designed proforma, were analyzed for time of onset, duration and severity of adverse effects. Causality relationship of recorded adverse events was established with imatinib therapy using WHO-UMC criteria. Results: A total of 222 adverse events were reported in 36 CML-CP patients over 12 months of follow up. Thrombocytopenia was the most commonly reported in 60% of the patients followed by musculoskeletal (17%), dermatological (16%), gastrointestinal disturbances (13%), body weight changes (11%), superficial edema (8%) and liver enzyme rise (4%). More than 80% events reported within months of therapy which persisted for less than 3 months in most of the cases. No treatment was needed in 68% of cases while therapy alteration was not needed in 88% of cases. Most of the reactions (60%) had probable relationship with the therapy. Conclusion: Imatinib was well tolerated, having only mild to moderate grade of toxicities, mostly within 3 months of therapy and most of them persisted for less than 3 months of duration, requiring only symptomatic treatment and drug withhold or dose decrement in only few cases. A self-consistent calculation is performed for the low-energy ${P}_{\frac{1}{2}}$, $T=\frac{1}{2}$, pion-nucleon scattering amplitude, using the $\frac{N}{D}$ method. The distant part of the left-hand cut for the partial-wave amplitude is dealt with in the manner of Bal\'azs. The mass of the nucleon bound state is found to be \ensuremath{\approx}880 MeV, the coupling constant \ensuremath{\approx}12. The low-energy phase shifts and the scattering length are also in good qualitative agreement with the observed ones.

Vertical time-section charts for temperature and dew-point anomalies have been plotted. The temperature anomaly decreasing upwards give convection according to Byers and Braham [1]2). The coincidence of temperature anomalies with central minimum and of dew-point anomalies with central maximum, or of upward decreasing trend in temperature anomalies and upward increasing trend in dewpoint anomalies, correspond to the convection associated with greater moisture influx, thus representing the case of a thunderstorm. The mentioned anomalies have been found to occur in such a way that cells with central maximum are followed by those with central minimum, and vice versa. Thus simultaneous occurrences of upward decreasing anomalies in temperature, i.e. occurrence of cells with central minimum of temperature, and upward increasing anomalies in dew-point, i.e. occurrence of cells with central maximum, can be observed at any station, hence the occurrences of thunderstorms at that station can be predicted. Moreover, the two kinds of anomalies can give the idea (along with that of convection, of coming of the synoptic situation having dry air aloft and moist air below, which is the ideal condition) for the occurrence of a hailstorm (Fawbush andMiller [2]).

A comprehensive description is given of rigorous Hartree-Fock calculations for cubic atomic-hydrogen crystals. All energy and overlap integrals are reduced to reciprocal-lattice sums. The exchange effects are treated exactly. The Bloch functions and Fermi surfaces are optimized. The near-Hartree-Fock results indicate essentially spherical Fermi surfaces and strong atomic-orbital behavior of the Bloch functions. The energetic effect associated with the atomlike inhomogeneities is about 15%. Good agreement is found between Kohn-Sham and Slater local-exchange potentials and exchange potentials deduced from our Hartree-Fock results.

Equations $$\frac{{\partial \phi k - 1}}{{\partial t}} = 9.8 T*_{k - 1} \frac{{\phi _k }}{{T_k ^2 }}\frac{{\partial T_k }}{{\partial t}}$$ and $$\frac{{\partial \phi _k }}{{\partial t}} = - 9.8 T*_k \frac{{\phi _k }}{{T_k ^2 }}\frac{{\partial T_k }}{{\partial t}}$$ have been derived. These equations reveal that the variation inT k , the temperature of the layer between two isobaric levels, causes variation in the same sense (increasing or decreasing) inφk-1, the geopotential height of the lower isobaric level and in the opposite sense inφ k , the geopotential height of the upper isobaric level. The former is associated with the bad or fair weather at and above the level while the latter with the radiational or other heating effects in lower layers. The time-section of the geopotential height of an isobaric level has approximately sinusoidal pattern. An increase in the slope of the geopotential height is indicative of incidence of bad weather, whereas decrease of slope corresponds to fair weather at and above the isobaric level under consideration.

Seven eutectic alloys (Pb-- Sb, Bi-- Cd, Zn-- Zn/sub 3/Sb/sub 2/, Bi-- BiPb/su b 2/, Bi-- Sn, Bi-- Zn, and Sn-- Zn) made from 99.99% purity components were zone-refined in argon atmosphere to reduce further their impurity content. The zone-refined alloys were zone-leveled and directionally solidified. Several basic morphological changes were observed: coarsening (Pb-- Sb), orientation of the minor phase along growth direction, some breakdown of regularity in the complex regular structure (Bi-- BiPb/sub 2/, Bi-- Sn), and horizontal alignment of the minor phase by rotation about the growth axis (Bi-- Cd, Bi-- Zn, Sn-- Zn). Three classes of refined structures were obtained: irregular (Pb-- Sb, Bi-- BiPb/ sub 2/, Bi-- Sn), brokenlamellar (Bi-- Cd, Br-- Zn), and broken-rod (Zn-- Zn/sub 3/Sb/sub 2/, Sn-- Zn).
