ヒト臨床材料およびウシ乳汁中より表支ブドウ球菌をそれぞれ135株, 341株分離し, serum-softagar法を応用して血清学的に型別し, 比較検討を行つた。これら菌株をserum-soft agar法で発育型を調べたところ, ヒト由来株では22.2%, 乳汁由来株では56.6%がcompact型を示し, ヒト由来株に比較して乳汁由来株では高頻度にcompact型が検出されたoヒト臨床材料よりえた血清型の異なる10種の表皮ブドウ球菌をウサギに免疫してえた抗血清を用いてserum-softagar法で血清型別を行つたところ, ヒト由来株では94.3%, ウシ乳汁由来株では83.1%を型別しえた。型別しえたヒト由来株99株中38株が単独型で10型に分類され, 61株は多価型のパターンを示し, 37型に分類された。これらのうち33型, ないし408型の因子血清と反応する菌株が約75.5%認められたが, M-10, 404, 411, N-4型などの因子血清と反応する菌株は数株認められるにすぎなかつた。一方, 乳汁由来株では型別された123株中45株が単独型で8型に分類され, 78株は多価型のパターンを示し, 48型に分類された。単独型ではM-10型と反応する株が全菌株の12.8%を占め, ヒト臨床材料から多数検出された53単独型は認められず, 多価型においても53あるいは21型と反応する菌株の数は少なかつた。また, ヒト由来株ではほとんど認められなかつた404, 411, N-4型などの血清型は多岐に亘る因子血清と反応する菌株が多く, 中でも39型因子血清と反応する株が多く認められた。なお, 408型, 53型はヒト臨床材料, 乳汁など広い分野から多数検出されたことは, こめ両者の株が広範囲に分布しているものと想像された。

This time the author has performed some separation tests of the weathered muscovitegranite which occurs abundantly in Amakawa, Kyuragi-machi, Higashimatsuura-gun, Saga-ken.As a result of the tests, the author has found that it is possible to separate the present material easily, especially without flotation, into Silica sand, Feldspar and Clay only through attrition, differential grinding and sizing. And according to this study, a mineral processing plant for the weathered granite, which treats 1000-1500 tons a month in feed, has been constructed in the above mentioned place. The outline of the flow sheet is introduced in this report.Additionally, some results of flotation tests have been reported here.

The "Shirasu" is one of the acidic volcanic ejectas which occurs widely in Southern Kyushu. Authors have tried to utilize it as a mineral resource for some industrial materials, through reduction of iron content by high magnetic density separation.At first, we have decided the best condition for magnetic separation of the "Shirasu". Then having separated it into the crystalline minerals and the volcanic glass, we investigated the lowest iron content in each fraction through magnetic separation. And according to the data obtained from the various kinds of experimental conditions, we have described the "Magnetic Separata-bility Curve" which corresponds to the " Washability Curve" in coal preparation.Through these experiments, it has been found that the lowest iron content of the concentrate of crystalline minerals is 0.2-0.4% Fe2O3, while that of volcanic glass is 1.2-1.5% Fe2O3, and also that the crystalline minerals have higher magnetic separatability than the volcanic glass.

Experiments were conducted repeatedly from 1953 to 1959 to study the aftereffects of vernalization and the cumulative effects of the repeated treatments. These experiments were conducted by raising barley and wheat in 1957, wheat in 1958 in the field, and wheat in 1958 in the greenhouse. It is impossible to judge whether the effect of the low temperature treatment on the succeeding crop is significant or not, unless the effect is very conspicuous. Fortunately because of the very warm growing seasons, the effect of the treatment was remarkable in both years. After effects caused by the low temperature treatment chiefly appeared during the period between early tillering and heading. These effects seemed to influence the height of plants, number of tillers, type of plant form, shooting period of leaf, size of leaf blade, and date of heading. With repeated treatments great effects of vernalization were observed, though their cumulative effects on morphological characters were not quite apparent in the field. In the greenhouse the aftereffects were especially remarkable because of more favorable growing condition for the expression of the efects of the treatment, and at the same time some cumulative effects on visible characters were also observed.

It is often seen that, in the couse of manufacturing processes of rubber articles, blooming of the intermediate rubber materials is an impediment to these processes; for example, in the case of auto-tyre, bloom of rubber topped on the cord or bloom on the surface of tread rubber hinders adhesion and causes ply-separation on tread separation. Further, for rubber goods such as footwear which are built up by adhesion, blooming causes a trouble in manufacturing.It is generally considered that blooming of sulphur is caused by cooling down and supersaturation of sulphur which melted at the temperature of milling of rubber, by crystallization at the point of the surface where something has incited it, and by migration of the inner sulphur to the surface where the crystal forms a nncleus.The blooming which appears first in the part of rubber under treatment where the hand has touched can be prevented by covering the surface of rubber with cellophane and thus pushing rubber out of contact with the air. In foreign factories, the surface of rubber leaving rolls or a calender is covered with cellophane and thus adhesiveness is kept and, at the seme time, blooming is prevented. In a large-scale industry as auto-tyre manufacturing, non-blooming sulphur is used for this purpose.Non-blooming sulphur consists chiefly of Sμ in amorphous S (one of the varieties of Sul-phur with low solubility in rubber) and recently put on the market by Stauffer Co. and Monsant Co.The authors have studied under what conditions blooming occurs more readily and give the results obtained from their experiments on separation of non-blooming sulphur.

Under carbon monoxide pressure, cupric alkoxides such as cupric methoxide, Cu(OCH3)2, and cupric acetylacetonate methoxide, Cu(acac)(OCH3), initiate the polymerization of vinyl monomers. The microstructure of polybutadiene and the composition of styrene-methacrylate copolymer by these catalyst systems have indicated a free radical mechanism. The mechanism of the initiation was examined by the end group of product polymer and the analysis of the reaction between the catalyst components. Reduction of Cu(OCH3)2 and Cu(acac)(OCH3) with carbon monoxide to Cu(OCH3) and Cu(acac), respectively, was responsible for the initiating activity. The decomposition of these unstable cuprous species produces methoxyl and acetylacetonyl radicals which initiate the polymerization.

The distribution of acetic, propionic and butyric acids, or of mixtures of two of these acids, between carbon tetrachloride and aqueous solutions has been studied at 25°C. The distribution data have been explained in terms of the partition of the acid monomer molecules and the dimerization of the monomer molecules in the organic phase. A salting-out effect has been observed upon additions of sodium perchlorate to the aqueous phase; this salting-out effect is larger in the order butyric>propionic>acetic acid. From the distribution data, the equilibrium constants for the distribution and the dimerization have been determined, and the formation constants for the mixed-dimer molecules have been compared with the statistical values. It has been concluded that the mixed-dimer molecules are equally stable or only a little less stable than had been statistically expected.

Summary Agglutinating antibody was present in IgM and IgG fractions from rabbit antiserum to Erysipclotlirix rhusiopathiae, but protective activity for mice was associated with only the IgG fraction.

1. Higher productivity of RIKUDEN than the ordinal paddy field was recognized by the field experiments. In spite of the poor initial growth, rice plants cultivated on the RIKUDEN showed better growth in later stages and produced high yield. The high yield on the RIKUDEN can be accounted for by the following characteristics of the RIKUDEN; high percolation of water through RIKUDEN soil, slight differentiation of plow sole layer, less degradation of soil, higher Eh value of soil during the growing period, high humification degree though three essential elements and humus content were lower, and larger soil volume-weight. On the RIKUDEN the roots of rice plants stretched healthy to deep layer and kept high activity even at the latter growth stage. Moreover, many alive leaves are observed after heading with plants on the RIKUDEN. Suffering from diseases and retardation of growth at latter stage are both few, and the straws were stronger. 2. In pot experiments, where the above mentioned characteristics of the RIKUDEN soil such as the high percolation of water, conditions of subsoil, more supply of nutrients by irrigation water, and larger soil volume-weight were eliminated, the same tendency of growth and yield of rice plants as that of field experiments was obtained. So that the high productivity of the RIKUDEN must be attributable for the genuine property of the surface soil of RIKUDEN, in addition to the above mentioned characteristics of the RIKUDEN field. Application of Bentonite was effective not only in preventing excessive percolation of water but also in increasing the absorption of nutrients such as SiO2, CaO, MgO, and MnO by plants, and resulted in the yield-increase with both kinds of soil.
