- Abstract
The article focuses on skin lesions characteristic of pseudoxanthoma elasticum. Despite the characteristic appearance of the affected areas of skin, pseudoxanthoma elasticum unrelated to the true xanthomatoses, being rather a diffuse degenerative process with both visceral and cutaneous manifestations, characterized by the local accumulation of abnormal protein with many of the histochemical reactions of elastic tissue. Pseudoxanthoma elasticum is probably of genetic origin and may be inherited as an autosomal recessive with partial limitation to the female.
