- Abstract
Seventy-eight "classic" short, non-feature films, cataloged according to six themes--communication, freedom, love, peace, happiness, and the underground--are discussed in this guide. The standard critique for each film has a fourfold purpose: (1) to indicate content and style; (2) to pose questions which provoke discussion; (3) to suggest resource materials for discussion and workshop potential (e.g., scenario outlines, interviews, poems, photographs, and quotations); and (4) to list the production background, major awards, and rental availability of each film in the United States and Canada. Selected illustrations and a list of producers and distributors are included as well as an appendix which offers a brief discussion of three major propaganda films, a selection of feature films--each classified according to one of the six themes, an essay on "Teaching the Film," suggestions for the use of film in religious retreat situations, and an alphabetical index of the non-feature films discussed in the book.
