Several letters to the editor are presented in response to articles in previous issues including one on the foreign policy of the U.S. in the September 17, 1951 issue, a review of the book "Party Going," by Henry Green in the September 17, 1951 issue, and a story of what an airman must go through to marry a girl in Japan in the September 3, 1951 issue.

Two groups of children received trivalent poliovirus vaccine. Group B had two doses, 10 to 11 weeks apart. Group A had one dose after 10 to 11 weeks of contact with Group B vaccinates. The second dose increased Group B seroconversions for poliovirus types I, II, and III, respectively, from 87% to 97%, 43% to 69%, and 91% to 100%. Corresponding Group A seroconversions resulting from contact were 25%, 20%, and 52% and increased following a single dose of vaccine to 99%, 60%, and 100%. Children with seven different wild enterovirus infections responded to vaccine type I. Rates of type I shedding after vaccination of children already type I seropositive were approximately 18% for those under 7 years of age and 60% for those under 2 years of age.

The added safety of radical surgical treatment for carcinoma of the cervix, and the recent proposals urging its more extensive use, have made it necessary that the respective merits of methods of controlling the disease be subjected to analysis. Despite their limitations, both radical surgical treatment and radiation therapy have progressively established their value over the course of the last fortyyears, and sufficient data have accumulated to permit definition of the most promising therapeutic policy by objective consideration of the evidence. In the present report the salient factors bearing on this question will be reviewed.A satisfactory plan of treatment must be based on knowledge of the pathology of the disease and of its paths of dissemination. A number of studies on autopsy and surgical material have enabled us to specify minimum requirements for a satisfactory plan of treatment (Kundrat, Baisch, Pankow, Martzloff, Pearson, Warren). A STOOL specimen was obtained from a subject (G.O.) 5 days after his ingestion of a trivalent poliovirus vaccine1. A 20 per cent suspension of the stool was prepared in buffered saline and centrifuged for 1 h at 6,000 r.p.m. The resulting supernatant fluid was treated with penicillin (200 u/ml.) and streptomycin (200 (µg/ml.) and left at room temperature for 1 h. It was then injected into 4 tubes of monkey-kidney tissue cultures (MKTC), prepared in stationary tubes by the method of Youngner2. Each tube received 0.1 ml. of the fluid. The cultures showed a cytopathic effect in 6–7 days. The cytopathic agent was again passed in MKTC and then identified as Type II poliovirus by neutralization tests with specific poliovirus antisera prepared by the Testing Department of Lederle Laboratories.
