Using a polarized or unpolarized proton beam previously described and a polarized proton target (70%) we measured the parametersP(θ) and \(C_{\mathcal{N}\mathcal{N}} (\theta )\) in the angular interval from 23° to 104° in the center-of-mass system at about 600 MeV. The experimental set-up and the way in which the data were carried out are discussed. Results are presented and compared to those already obtained in the same energy region.

We present a high-energy neutron hodoscope where the impact vertex of the neutron is determined by detection of charged particles produced in a converter, with two multiwire proportional chambers. Tests in 19 GeV/ c neutron and 10 GeV/ c proton beams give, for a total neutron efficiency of 6.5%, an accuracy of ±2.2 mm. Of the reconstructed events 96% are found within ±1 cm distance from the true impact point. The efficiency is then six times larger for neutrons than for gamma-rays.

Le faisceau de protons polarises du synchrocyclotron d'Orsay est decrit. L'energie est de (141 ± 2 MeV), la polarisation de (61,6 ± 2,5) %. La polarisation dans la diffusion elastique p - 12C et p - d a ete mesuree dans l'intervalle 10° — 25° lab. pour le carbone et 23° — 160° CM pour le deuterium. Les resultats sont compares a ceux deja existants et aux calculs theoriques pour le deuterium.

Experimental results are given for the polarization parameter P 0 in π − p scattering at 6.0, 8.0, 10.0 and 12.0 GeV/ c , and in π + p and pp scattering at 6.0, 10.0 and 12.0 GeV/ c . The invariant four-momentum transfer squared − t varies from 0.1 to 0.75 (GeV/ c ) 2 .

This article describes a systematic study of the efficiency, space resolution and multiparticle separation in multiwire proportional chambers. For a variety of gas mixtures, results were obtained as functions of high voltage, time resolution and incidence angle of particles. A new gas, argon+isobutane+freon-13 B1 permits a considerable gain in amplification without entering into the Geiger or spark region.

In this paper, we describe the construction of a proton beam which can also be vertically polarized in both orientations. To reverse the beam polarization, the incident scattering angle was reversed. This polarized beam has a sufficiently high intensity (2·106 protons per second) and polarization (near 40%) to be used in experiments. Measurements of the analysing power of carbon at 600 MeV are also given for four scattering angles.

We have measured the polarization parameter Po in π-p elastic scattering at 6.0, 8.0 and 10.0 GeV/c in the interval of invariant four-momentum transfers t from −0.1 to −0.75 (GeV/c)2, using a target containing polarized protons.

Parameters D and R ' in p-d elastic scattering were measured at 135 MeV, 20°–60° lab. angular range. The results are compared with theoretical calculations using the impulse approximation and nucleon- nucleon scattering amplitudes.
