Ambler Account Books, 1915-1952. Ambler's accounts with the heirs of S.W. Ambler and S.M. Keys of Jefferson County, West Virginia. Other heirs are Letty C., Lucy J. and C.E. Ambler. There are also entries concerning the estates of H. Keys, S.W. Washington, and Jacob Zinn. There is information on management of farms and residences, business firms in the area of Charles Town, tenant and owner shares, U.S. Treasury crop allotments, and labor shortages during World War II.

This scrapbook contains newspaper clippings regarding the Greener Hills program of the West Virginia University Agricultural Extension Service. The Greener Hills program stressed balanced grasslands farming and its importance for livestock raising in the state. The clippings provide information on various activities and programs of the Greener Hills program, including regional meetings, lectures, farm demonstrations, and publications.

Family history, autobiographical sketch, account books of farming operations in Putnam County, West Virginia, 1894-1934, and articles and pamphlets written by a state agricultural leader, founder of the state Grange, and national Grange representative in Washington. Atkeson also played a leading role in the development of the West Virginia University Agricultural College at Morgantown where he was a professor for many years.

Surveys of rural residents conducted by WVU Agricultural Experiment Station. Inquiries about farm land conditions, size of operations, profitability and the respondents opinions about the local community and its economic prospects. The 1924 survey was taken only in the Easton-Avery section of Monongalia County and contains an accompanying map with individual family farms number coded. The 1958 survey, a selection from around the state, is more indicative of demographics especially of out migration of family members to urban areas.

Diary and account book of a Michigan farmer with entries about work performed such as planting or clearing land for a day. There are comments about the weather and extensive notes on prices. There is some biographical information identifying Manley (1863-1919) as a Canadian who emigrated to the United States some time after he became married.

This diary shows the daily activities of a farm family in Short Run, Maryland. The entries are continuous from 1 January 1915 to 21 July 1915 and intermittent from 22 July until the final entry on 2 October. In the diary Wilson discusses weather conditions, farm work performed by himself and his siblings, trips to neighboring towns and to Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland, illnesses and death, and social occasions.

A compilation of West Virginia farm business records and year end analyses. This electronic service was provided for cooperating farmers by ELFAC (an acronym for Easy, Low Cost, Flexible, Accurate, Complete) sponsored in cooperation with land grant institutions by the (USDA) U. S. Dept. of Agriculture. The program's purpose is to help a farmer determine his tax status, credit rating and generally to facilitate farm management decisions through the analysis of costs for labor, feed, machinery, capital turnover, and production.

Stiles, Reminiscences of Monongalia County, 1910-1916. The boyhood memoirs of an elderly Monongalia County resident, entitled, "Our Daily Bread" relating rural life in the early years of the twentieth century. There is mention of home remedies, farming, country stores, school, church, holidays, transportation and folkways. He describes in detail seeing the first automobile in the western part of the county. Also contains some genealogical notes on William White and family, White is the surveyor who named that portion of the county, Battelle District.
