Thirty one Ss were given six questions that had to be answered with the number of items in the images suggested. The linear function obtained shows that the counting time is directly related to the number of items visually represented, supporting the hypothesis of memory as an active and reconstructive process. Also the possible influence of imagery upon this process was investigated. The Betts Test of Vividness of Imagery Scale and the Gordon Test of Visual Imagery Control were applied and later correlated against each one of the reaction times of the six questions and among themselves. Only the three questions with a more experiential content correlated with the Betts test and none with the Gordon test. Possible interpretations to these results are discussed.
