The clinical and histopathologic findings in a case of lipoid proteinosis are described. Electron micrographs demonstrated the presence of an extracellular, finely granular, amorphous material located in patchy distribution throughout the dermis and about blood vessels in the lids and lip. Collagen fibers were normal. It is suggested that the different character of these deposits as compared to those in previous reports might be the result of the biopsy of lesions at different stages of development.

THE PURPOSE of this paper is to report the peculiar ocular histopathologic changes of an anomalous cleavage of the anterior chamber angle, choristomatous cornea-like tissue on the anterior iris surface, and a membrane in the chamber angle in an infant with multiple congenital anomalies. REPORT OF A CASE This 2-month-old white female infant died at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children on Jan 9, 1967 (autopsy: A-3-67; Wilmer Eye Pathology 29294). The infant's body was grossly malformed, exhibiting generalized asymmetry. The body weighed 2,124 gm (4 lb 10½ oz). The head was markedly flattened on the right side; the fontanel was located above the midportion of the left eyebrow rather than in the midline. The right eye bulged forward considerably. THE PURPOSE of this paper is to present, for the first time, the ocular pathological manifestations of infantile or type 1 GM1-gangliosidosis (also known as generalized gangliosidosis). In addition, the clinical aspects of this disease will be discussed, since it has important ocular manifestations, but has received only one brief mention in the ophthalmic literature.1GM1-gangliosidosis is one of the inborn errors of metabolism, associated with the abnormal storage of two substances, one a ganglioside, and the other a mucopolysaccharide.
