The article presents a study which examines the local effect of phosphate-based therapeutic agents on the composition of dental plaque. The desire for the development of a substance capable of affecting the composition of plaque in order to prevent dental caries is described. The need for research into the ability of phosphate to enter dental plaque in order to provide evidence that dietary phosphate supplements are capable of altering plaque in such a way that prevents the development of caries is also mentioned.

SUMMARY A case of mucin-secreting carcinoma of the prostate is reported and the literature reviewed. Three other published cases were found, and one of these is of a different histological type. In the case reported here and in the two similar cases found in the literature, the patients were within the age group in which prostatic carcinoma is found most often. The particular zone f the prostate in which the tumour in the present case originated is the most usual site of origin of carcinoma of this organ. There is insufficient information available for it to be said whether the clinical course of the condition is the same as in the commoner varieties of prostatic carcinoma. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
