7. Solutions of the motion of synchronous satellites with arbitrary eccentricity and inclination

Abstract

A first order, semianalytical theory for the long term motion of resonant satellites is presented. The theory is valid for all eccentricities and inclinations and for all commensurability ratios. The method allows the inclusion of all the zonal and tesseral harmonics as well as luni solar perturbations and radiation pressure. The method is applied to a synchronous satellite including only the J sub 2 and J sub 22 harmonics. Global, long term solutions for this problem, eccentricity, argument of perigee, and inclination are obtained.

36. Effects of semantic and nonsemantic cued orienting tasks on associative clustering in free recall.

Abstract

During presentation of a randomized list of nonadjacent associative pairs, Ss heard a cue after each word designating the task to be performed. All Ss performed two tasks. In the identical condition, Ss performed the same task on both members of an associative pair. In the nonidentical condition, Ss never performed the same task on pair members. Semantic tasks led to greater recall than did nonsemantic tasks. Also, percentage of clustering was greater when the second member of a recalled cluster had been used in a semantic task rather than a nonsemantic one. Identical and nonidentical conditions did not differ in the measure of recall. When the two tasks were a combination of one semantic and one nonsemantic task, the identical condition showed a greater percentage of clustering than the nonidentical condition. However, when the two tasks were both semantic, no difference in clustering was obtained.

38. Olmec civilization, veracruz, Mexico: dating of the san lorenzo phase.

Abstract

Archeological excavations at San Lorenzo Tenochtitlan, Veracruz, show that the Olmec sculptures of this zone are associated with the San Lorenzo phase, which can be placed in the Early Formative period (1500-800 B.C.) on the basis of ceramic comparisons. Five of six radiocarbon dates for the San Lorenzo phase fall within the 1200-900 B.C. span. The San Lorenzo phase therefore marks the beginning of Olmec civilization, and the sites forming the San Lorenzo Tenochtitlan group represent the oldest civilized communities known in Mexico or Central America.
