Ludvig Kristensen Daa er vel mest kjent som den mislykte politiker og som den hensynsløse polemiske skribent. Men han var også, eller ville i alle fall være, vitenskapsmann. Det var innenfor historiens område han først gjorde seg bemerket. Han ble således for et par år like etter embetseksamen (1835–36) konstituert som lærer i dette fag ved universitetet under professor Steenblochs sykdom og senere etter hans død. Men da han sammen med P. A. Munch sokte om fast ansettelse som lektor i historie i 1837, ble Munch foretrukket, og Daa var ikke alene om å oppfatte dette som en politisk forbigåelse. Dette var hans første store skuffelse på det vitenskapelige område. Den neste kom et par år senere da han søkte en lærerpost i statsakonomi ved universitetet. Denne gang var det Schweigaard som gikk foran, og Daa anså seg etter dette som ferdig med Universitetet. Han kom likevel til å ende sine dager som professor i historie. During the senescence of the leaves of Parthenocissus tricuspidata Planchon, the high level of Ca2+ ions liberated from poetic membranes in the aqueous medium of the blade causes a decrease in photophosphorytation and chlorophyll regeneration, while carboxylation and diffusion resistances increase. After the hydrolysis of its carbohydrate and protein reserves,the leaf blade can no longer contribute to the nutrition of the plant and abscission is prepared. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the Collembolan Neanura monticola (2 n ♀ = + XX, 2 n ♂ = 12 + XO) only the autosomes have classical polytene structure in salivary glands. - In a valley of the Pyrenees-mountains, the X-chromosome shows an intense polymorphism with 13 different types of pattern. These differences are revealed in the pairing in bundles of elementary fibres, in the apparition of transversal bands, in a progressive overcharge of α-heterochromatin in certain points, briing a radiant structure of chromosome (25 differents types of heterogametic females have been observed). - In the damp forests at lesser altitude, the X-chromosome remains flaky, as in polyploid nuclei of other tissues. The structure with parallel bundles appears in cold forests between 1 600 and 1 800 m of altitude. In subalpine biotopes the astral-ray type becomes preponderant and from 2 200 m the exclusive form with hypertrophy of α-heterochromatic block. Various hypothesis are discussed that explain the selective advantage an α-heterochromatic overcharge might give to the subalpine populations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To what degree Is the socialization of "core" values a function of family, as opposed to generational influences? Data from 2,044 individuals, subsequently reduced to 256 grand-parent-parent-youth lineages, are used to explore this issue. Multivariate analysis resulted fri the identification of two value dimensions (Humanism/Materialism and Collectivism/Individualism) that characterized the range of chokes from which respondents made value Judgments. Generational differences in Collectivism /individualism valuer were apparent, and on this dimension low to moderate family transmission effects did emerge. Out the capacity to explain value choices on the basis of either of these sources of influence war minimal, especially on Humanism/Materialism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
