Generalized design techniques are presented for the cam-link mechanism which is a fundamentally new and different kinematic chain capable of structural error-free operation for both path and function generation. These design techniques, employing an optimization procedure, provide a systematic approach to the design of mechanisms for function and path generation when extreme accuracy is required and when severe design restrictions must be accommodated. Examples are worked to demonstrate application of these procedures and to illustrate the nature and capabilities of the cam-link mechanism.
