Abstract

What you will see on the following pages is my identity. There is nothing here for anyone who would like culture. There is none here. Art has, to a certain extent, been misconstrued to mean culture. Whether culture means to you as it does to me - a neatly combed head of hair, two feet above raw guts. This book contains Art, meaning not of the ordinary. The point of view I take is prairie, my facility is Art. The Prairie appeals to me as energies spent, i.e. When you are in a hospital room, you are not aware of the people who were given life there or who died and were swept away. You are aware of the room. My work speaks of the room which is the prairie. In my work I try to blend Eastern thought with Western Art to explore infinity. I am a recorder of infinity. Art in my own mind means identity. The amount I possess. Identity is a desperate, through survival, attainment. It is a NOW, reason for. It is the beauty of a vague unanswered question. An Artist, I have no idea how, chooses something. He then leaves the something behind, then he lowers himself to a base struggle. Himself against materials. At this time steel is the best material for my work. It is polished to reflect. The most important thing in a piece of Art, is to not be aware of form or content, but to blend into the piece. For only then are you in accord with Art as I know it.

21. Reconstruction Versus Prosthesis: Observations in a Series of Fifty Cases

Abstract

INDICATIONS FOR RECONSTRUCTION A series of 50 cases demonstrated that reconstruction is beneficial in the following conditions: (1) in nonunion of the neck of the femur; (2) when there is excessive absorption of the proximal and distal portions of the neck, so that only the head and the base of the neck and the intertrochanteric area remain; (3) in aseptic necrosis of the head as a consequence of dislocation of the hip, of fracture of the acetabulum, or of other injuries that interfere with the circulation of the head and neck; (4) in advanced osteoarthritic changes in the head of the femur; (5) when there are malformations of the head as a result of a shallow acetabulum or a long-standing pathologic condition of the hips, such as Perthes' disease or a slipped femoral epiphysis, and (6) in subcapital fractures in the aged. Abstract

This study is an attempt to describe the behavior of buyers and sellers. Four econometric models were developed using data obtained on sales consummated. The models, whose coefficients were estimated using stepwise linear regression, illustrated relationships between asked price, sale price, physical parameters of the goods and time of sale. Another manuscript given by Dr. Callahan is his "History of the Christian Church in Western Europe." The title is self-explanatory. The work demonstrates the result of careful research. 5 boxes contain notes, letters and documents gathered from the time Dr.Callahan was a student at the Johns Hopkins University until the year of his retirement from West Virginia University. This work pertains to the development of these in American History, chiefly in the field of diplomacy; however a sketch of the life of the author may be found here.One box containsphotographs of faculty, students, and scenes on the campus of West Virginia University from 1867-1946. Two boxes contain a history of West Virginia in manuscript prepared by Dr. Callahan. This work covers the founding of the University and pursues its development until 1947. The manuscript is the result of extensive research and writing, and is prepared for publication. On August 1, 1947, Dr.Callahan committed to the care of the archivist his manuscript "Lives of the Presidents of West Virginia University." The author has prepared this work for publication and as soon as the authorities deem the time propitious for printing, his wishes should be gratified. This document is one of the great importance to this institution.
