1. CUSTOMS’ ROLE IN OVERCOMING COVID-19 OUTBREAK: THE CASE OF INDONESIA

Abstract

The global pandemic so-called COVID-19 disrupts supply chain and have an impact on numerous sectors. The adversity suffered by most of the countries is severe shortage of medical supply input. In addition, the nuisance on supply chain also affects economic growth and the most affected are firms which operations are related to international trade. Customs as related institution in international trade has a vital role in sustaining the supply chain continuity. This paper is quantitative research with descriptive statistics method. The paper analyses the policies implemented by customs authority and provide the data analysis in statistical form with descriptive narrative. Our findings depict how the preliminary steps that taken affect domestic supply by stimulating cross-border trade. Our result also show that fiscal incentives successfully escalate medical equipment supply via importation and take a role on national balance trade, but procedural support provided can’t handle numerous of importation of medical supplies so there’s no changes in dwelling time. The outcomes and findings of our study can be used by government or researchers as an evaluation for progressing the further support systems guiding supply chain.

2. The Contribution Of Sufism In Facing Covid-19 Pandemic

Abstract

Sufism is an esoteric (inner) aspect in Islam that teaches self-purification (taskiyatun nafs) in an effort to get closer to God which has an impact on the behavior of one's life. Human behavior at this time, the world hit by the Covid-19 outbreak still has not shown the right behavior, as there are still many people who violate the rules of the government and recommendations from health experts in an effort to break the Covid-19 chain. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with the formulation of the problem of how to describe the role of Sufism in dealing with the Covid-19 outbreak. The purpose of this research is to describe the teachings of Sufism in contributing to breaking the chain of the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak. The result of this research is that the practice of uzlah (seclusion) and seclusion (solitude) in Sufism can be used as alternatives in breaking the rate of spread of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Abstract

Since the coronavirus outbreak influenced the whole population in 2020, many individuals, both directly and indirectly affected, experienced increased levels of distress at that time. Such a global mental health crisis requires identification of key mechanisms which contribute to distress during pandemic. Specificity of COVID-19 outbreak was lack of sufficient information at the beginning and, consequently, a high level of perceived uncertainty. The main aim of this study was to examine the influence of the intolerance of uncertainty to the experienced level of distress during the pandemic. Additionally, influence of media exposure and fear were examined. Total of 740 participants took part in an online study during the coronavirus outbreak in Serbia. Moderately high level of distress was recorded in our sample. About ⅓ of participants were in each group: no distress, moderately high and highly elevated. Results of serial mediation analysis showed that the intolerance of uncertainty had a significant direct effect on distress, but also indirect via fear of COVID-19 and media exposure. Higher levels of intolerance of uncertainty lead to more time spent on media looking for information, and consequently to higher fear and distress levels. Furthermore, it was shown that media exposure also increased the level of fear. Such results emphasized the importance of unambiguous, clear informing during the time of crisis which can decrease uncertainty, and provided some practical implication for media and authorities.

Abstract

The current outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) disease 2019 (COVID-19) represents a source of concern for the management of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Indeed patients with SLE have an increased risk of severe infections due to intrinsic perturbations of their immune response, the use of immunosuppressive drugs, as well as the potential presence of organ damage associated with their disease. In this context, hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), a drug that is currently part of the long-term, standard-of-care treatment for SLE, has been reported to possess antiviral activity in vitro, and recent results from a preliminary clinical trial might support its use in curative or even prophylactic treatment for COVID-19.1–3 During the first days of the COVID-19 outbreak in France, we launched an observational study with the aim to follow the clinical course of COVID-19 in patients with SLE who received long-term treatment with HCQ. To be eligible, patients with SLE had to (1) fulfil the 1997 criteria of the SLE classifications of the American College of Rheumatology or those of the 2019 European League Against Rheumatism/American College of Rheumatology4 5; (2) be on long-term treatment with HCQ; and (3) have SARS-CoV-2 carriage in their nasopharyngeal swab, as confirmed by real-time reverse transcription PCR analysis.
