1. Die jodometrische Bestimmung des Coffeins nach Wallrabe ist nur anwendbar, wenn die zu bestimmende Coffeinmenge von vornherein genugend genau bekannt ist. Weichen die Einwaagen von Reincoffein von den Angaben der Originalvorschrift ab, so ergeben sich grosere Fehler. 2. Die Abhangigkeit des Fehlers von der Jod-Endkonzentration wird Aufgezeigt. 3. Eine Arbeitsvorschrift zur Bestimmung von Coffeinmengen zwischen 10 und 150 mg wird gegeben.

The possibility of using targets, in which the ions are implanted into the backing material, in Doppler-shift attenuation measurements of lifetimes of nuclear states excited in proton capture reactions has been investigated. The effect of various uncertainties in the stopping power values on the results has also been computed. The analysis is applied to the determination of the lifetime of the 2641 keV state in 23 Na and the lifetime of the 4617 keV state in 28 Si.

The lifetimes of the four first excited energy levels of 28Si have been measured using the Doppler-shift attenuation method in the 27Al(p,γ)28Si reaction. In the analysis of the Doppler-shift data, the effect of the inelastic large-angle collisions in the slowing-down process was estimated in addition to the conventional treatment.

Es werden zwei einfache Verfahren zur Extraktion von Bakterien mit Phenol/Wasser angegeben. Nach Behandlung von gramnegativen Bakterien mit Phenol/Wasser-Emulsionen in der Kälte während weniger Minuten erhält man in der wäßrigen Phase die somatischen Glykoproteide der Bakterien (hauptsächlich 0-Antigene) in praktisch quantitativer Ausbeute. Nach Extraktion der Bakterien mit erwärmten, homogenen Phenol/Wasser-Mischungen und Trennen der Phasen in der Kälte finden sich in der wäßrigen Phase die proteinfreien Polysaccharide neben Nucleinsäuren. Einige chemische und immunologische Eigenschaften der nach den beiden Verfahren dargestellten Glykoproteide und Polysaccharide werden beschrieben.

The 23Na(p,?0)20Ne reaction has been investigated in the energy region Ep = 590-1 810 keV; 16 resonances have been observed. The angular distributions of ? particles have been measured in 14 cases. Analysis of the distributions allowed of the following assignments for the resonance states: 592 keV 3-; 744 keV 2-; 919 keV 0+, 1-, 2+; 1 091 keV 1-, 2+; 1 136 keV 1-, 2+; 1 163 keV 0+, 1-, 2+; 1 010 keV 3-; 1 284 keV 1-; 1 417 keV 2+; 1 458 keV 3-(1-); 1 500 keV 2-; 1 556 keV (2+); and 1 650 keV (1-). The population probabilities of different magnetic substates and the formation parameters of the resonances are given.

From the yield curve of the27Al(p, γ)28Si reaction obtained with implanted targets, the range distributions and mean ranges of 50 keV Al+-ions have been determined in C, Cu, Mo and Ta. The energy straggling of protons has been taken into account in the analysis. The DSA lifetime values in different backing materials are in good agreement when measured ranges are used for the determination of the stopping parameters.

Fourteen21Ne(p, γ)22Na resonances have been observed in the rangeE p =300–1,300 keV. Theγ-decay of all these resonances has been investigated by means of a 38 cm3 Ge(Li) detector. Energies and branching ratios of several bound states have been determined. TheQ-value was determined as 6,738.5±1.7 keV. Lifetimes of seven states were determined with the Doppler-shift attenuation method.

Der für die Weil-Felix-Reaktion verantwortliche Antikörper (WF-Antikörper) aus dem Serum von Fleckfieber-Rekonvaleszenten wurde mit Hilfe spezifischer Methoden serologisch rein dargestellt. Lösungen des WF-Antikörpers zeigten gute Agglutinationswirkung gegenüber Bact. proteus X 19. Dagegen wurden in vergleichbaren Konzentrationen Rickettsien nicht agglutiniert. Es wird eine Theorie der Genese des WF-Antikörpers gegeben, welche diesem Befund und den Ergebnissen Castanedas gerecht wird. Aus Rickettsien konnte das Glykoproteid isoliert werden, welches zur Bildung des WF-Antikörpers während der Fleckfieber-Erkrankung führt. Auf die mögliche therapeutische Bedeutung des WF-Antikörpers wird hingewiesen.

Ausgehend von D‐ bzw. L‐Arabinose werden D‐ bzw. L‐Glucosamine aufgebaut, die am N‐Atom Methyl, Isopropyl, Phenyl und Carboxymethyl tragen. Das N‐Methyl‐L‐glucosamin (Spaltstück des Streptomycins) läßt sich in hoher Ausbeute synthetisch gewinnen. N‐Isopropyl‐L‐glucosaminsäurenitril wird durch Wasser schon in der Kälte zur entsprechenden Carbonsäure verseift. Das N‐Benzyl‐glucosaminsäurenitril läβt sich durch Kochen mit Methanol oder Äthanol teilweise in N‐Benzyl‐mannosaminsäurenitril umlagern. Die katalytische Hydrierung der L‐Verbindung führt zu dem noch unbekannten L‐Mannosamin.

Fortyeight resonances of the34S(p, γ)35Cl reaction in the proton rangeE p=1–2 MeV have been observed. Gamma decay of twentyeight of these was investigated by means of a 55 cm3 Ge(Li) detector, and the energies and branching ratios of several bound states have been determined. TheQ-value was found to be 6367.0 ± 1.5 keV. The lifetimes 150±20, 400±140, 19±4, 14±2, 145±50, 20±5, 20±4, 42±4 and 7±3 fs were determined with the DSA method for the states at 1219, 1763, 2694, 3003, 3944, 3967, 4059, 4178 and 4882 keV, respectively. The experimental transition strengths were found to be in agreement with those given by manyparticle shell-modell calculations.

Certain problems associated with stopping in DSA measurements have been investigated using the 26Mg(p, γ)27Al reaction and comparing lifetimes derived from these measurements with the known lifetime of the Ex = 2210 keV state of 27Al. The effect of the quantity and composition of the collected target material on the derived lifetime was investigated by using targets prepared in different ways. The relative ranges of recoil ions were determined by implanting a small quantity of target material into the backing. The lifetime results derived using C, MgO, Mo and Ta as backing material, and corrected using measured range values are consistent with the average value obtained with other methods.

The suitability of cylinder-symmetric magnetic sector fields for one-gap broad-range heavy particle spectrographs is investigated. If the desired energy range is not large ( E max E min ≤2 ) the focusing properties are good. The biggest advantages compared to homogeneous field analysers are a wider opening angle (≈2 msr) and a larger dispersion. The usable energy range E max E min ) can be increased by curving the entrance and exit edges of the analyser, which partly eliminates the aberration.

With barium hydrazide, which is easily to prepare and relatively harmless to handle, some addition-, substitution- and reduction-reactions were carried out. Partially we could get the same, partially however other products than by the analogous reactions with the normally used, but highly explosive sodium hydrazide. Especially the formation of the azo-compound H5C6-CH2-CH2-N = N-CH2-CH2-C6H5 and of H5C6-C(NH)-NH-NH-C(NH)-C6H5 by the addition of barium hydrazide to styrene resp. benzoic nitrile was remarkable.

Eine Calciumphosphat-Suspension wird aus erhitztem CaCl2 und erhitztem Na3PO4 unter Bedingungen hergestellt, die eine Verunreinigung mit bakteriellem Pyrogen ausschließen. Dieses Hydrogel wirkt pyrogen. Es dürfte damit bewiesen sein, daß auch sterile, von mikrobiellem Pyrogen freie Stoffe Fieber hervorrufen können.

The mean lives have been determined with the Dopplershift attenuation method (DSAM) for levels in 30P populated by the gamma decay of the Ep = 1 470 keV, 1 505 keV, 1 686 keV, 1 746 keV and 1 749 keV resonances in the reaction 29Si(p,?)30P. The measured mean lives are given for seven excited states. Upper or lower limits of the mean lives are obtained for some other states.

The mean lives of levels in 37K and 39K have been measured with the Doppler-shift attenuation method through the 36Ar(p,γ)37K and 38Ar(p,γ)39K reaction. The ions 36Ar (0.337%) and 38Ar (0.063%) were separated into a tantalum backing. The mean lives or their upper limits of the 2 523 keV, 3 020 keV and 7 738 keV states in 39K and of the 2 750 keV state in 37K were determined as τ m = 32 ± 12 fs, 21 ± 6 fs, < 4 fs and < 6 fs, respectively. The result obtained for the Q-value of the 38Ar(p,γ)39K reaction was 6 381.2 ± 1.2 keV. Some information concerning the decay of the 38Ar(p,γ)39K E p = 1 393 keV resonance is also gained. The results on τ are compared with predictions from previous shell-model calculations.

Die aus l-Fucose durch Disulfon-Abbau erhaltene 5-Desoxy-l-lyxose (V) lies sich als α-Form kristallisiert gewinnen. Die Desoxypentose V gibt mit NH3 nicht ein normales Glykosylamin, sondern eine Verbindung C10H19NO6 mit auffallend starkem Drehungsvermogen. Aus dieser konnte, nach Einwirkung von NH3 und HCN, durch katalytische Hydrierung kristallisiertes α-l-Fucosamin· HCl (VII) erhalten werden. Der synthetische Aminozucker erweist sich in seinen Eigenschaften als Spiegelbild des d-Fucosamins, das aus dem spezifischen Polysaccharid eines Stammes von Chromobacterium violaceum isoliert worden ist.
