The article discusses the evolution of black poetry in the U.S. Famous black poet Nikki Giovanni is one of the foremost propagandists of the black poetry. In changed scenario, black poets often chant their poetry in lofts, churches and schools, as if they were still tribal prophets. It states tha the best known of the new black poets is LeRoi Jones, a playwright and essayist, who due to to his political activities has stood trial in New Jersey. According to Jones, black poetry often makes the poetry of the streets come alive. It reflects that black poetry has already shown enormous vitality that may achieve greatness eventually.
