The intensity of the shade and fertilizer are the two aspects of the environment that important for the growth of madeira vine plants. The purpose of the research was to know the growth response of madeira vine on different levels shade and application of fertilizer and Biochar. The research was conducted in the research field of Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medan about ± 32 m above the sea, on June to August 2017. This research used Split Plot Design with 2 factors, level of shade (0%; 25%; 50%; dan 75%) and application Fertilizer (without fertilizer; urea 1.6 g/plant; chicken manure 53.3 g/plant; biochar rice husk 294.4 g/plant). This results research showed that without shade (0%) increased the growth of plant length but the 75% shade increased of chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, and total chlorophyll. Application of chicken manure was increasing plant length, shoot fresh weight but application biochar rice husk increased crop dry weight and leaf area. The interaction of different level shade and application of fertilizer was not significant affecting to the growth madeira vine plant in the end of observation.

Good growing media contains enough nutrients, light textured, and have the capacity to hold water to create conditions that can support plant growth. The growing media used for propagation has several requirements, that is firm and dense to enhance the growth of stems, has the capability to hold water, guarantee the plant life, and moderate humidity. This study attempts to evaluate the effect of biochar, cocopeat, and saw dust compost on the growth of Dryobalanops aromatica and Shorea balangeran seedlings. An experiment was conducted by using completely randomized block design (CRBD) in factorial with two factors, namely growing media (top soil 100%; top soil 80% + saw dust compost 20%; top soil 80% + biochar 20%, top soil 80% + 20% coco peat ) and two species of dipterocarps seedlings (D. aromatica and S. balangeran). The experiment was carried out in a Forestry Faculty nursery during 3 months. To determine the best growth media, the vegetative parameters of seedlings were measured and the data were statistically analyzed. Survival rates of both of seedlings showed good specification in all types of growing media. The survival rates of D. aromatica for 100% top soil (control); 80% top soil+ 20% sawdust compost; 80% topsoil + 20% biochar; 80% top soil + 20% cocopeat are 100%; 100%; 97.78% and 97.78%; respectively. S. balangeran are 93.33%; 100%; 100%; 97.78%. Quality Index of D. aromatica 100% top soil (control); 80% top soil+ 20% sawdust compost; 80% topsoil + 20% biochar; 80% top soil + 20% cocopeat that are 0.15; 0.14; 0.10; and 0.10; and for S. balangeran 0.09; 0.38; 0.05 and 0.07 respectively.

Fosfor merupakan salah satu unsur hara makro yang sangat diperlukan oleh tanaman. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui ketersediaan hara fosfor akibat pemberian biochar sekam padi dan pupuk kandang sapi pada tanah Inceptisol Kwala Bekala yang dilakukan di Rumah Kasa. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok dengan dua faktor dan tiga ulangan. Faktor pertama biochar sekam padi dengan 4 taraf: 0 g/pot; 25 g/pot; 50 g/pot dan 75 g/pot. Faktor kedua pupuk kandang sapi dengan 4 taraf: 0 g/pot; 25 g/pot; 50 g/pot dan 75 g/pot. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian biochar sekam padi sebanyak 50 g/pot meningkatkan ketersediaan hara fosfor sebesar 10,95 ppm, pemberian pupuk kandang sapi sebanyak 50 g/pot meningkatkan ketersediaan hara fosfor sebesar 14,25 ppm, dan interaksi biochar sekam padi 50 g/pot dan pupuk kandang sapi 50 g/pot mampu meningkatkan ketersediaan hara fosfor sebesar 11,01 ppm.

Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di lahan penelitian Balai Benih Induk Tanjung Selamat, jalan Pendidikan Kelurahan Tanjung Selamat, Kecamatan Medan Tuntungan, Medan pada ketinggian tempat ± 35 m dpl. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Oktober sampai dengan Desember 2016. Metode percobaan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) faktorial dengan 2 faktor perlakuan yaitu dosis biochar yaitu kontrol, 5 ton/hektar, 10 ton/hektar, 15 ton/hektar dan konsentrasi pupuk organik cair yakni kontrol, 5 ml/liter air, 10 ml/liter air, 15 ml/liter air. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan biochar berpengaruh nyata terhadap peubah amatan volume akar, produksi per sampel dan produksi per plot, perlakuan biochar terbaik ialah 15 ton/hektar.Perlakuan pupuk organik cair berpengaruh nyata terhadap peubah amatan luas daun, volume akar dan produksi per plot, perlakuan pupuk organik cair terbaik ialah 15 ml/liter air sedangkan interaksi antara perlakuan pupuk organik cair dan perlakuan biochar tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap semua peubah amatan.

En este trabajo se propone el proceso de pirólisis como una posible vía de tratamiento de purines, que permite obtener energía renovable y un sólido, denominado biochar, con propiedades como enmienda orgánica. Se estudia el efecto de la temperatura de pirólisis sobre las propiedades del biochar.
