The neurosecretory cells, the corpora cardiaca and the corpora allata of the embryos of Anacridium aegyptium, L. can be observed at the 19th stage, the stage after the embryo has rotated at the pos- terior pole of the egg.The neurosecretory cells in the head can be seen in the brain (in the protocerebrum and tritocerebrum) and the frontal and phageal ganglia, but only the neurosecretory cells of the brain were studied. They are few in number and are scattered at the periphery of protocerebrum, especially in the median, lateral and anterio- ventral regions, but do not form groups. The most conspicuous neurosecretory cells are those in the mid-line of the anterio- ventral region of the protocerebrum. One type of neurosecretory cells can be identified by their granules, but it is not possible to distinguish cyclic activity during embryonic development.

The ventral head glands of the embryos of Anacridium aegyptium L. were studied in subsequent stages histologically and beginning with the development of the glands, the morphological properties of the embryonic stages were considered. 1— These glands are a pair of structures and first appearing in embryos which have completed their rotation in the mycropilar end of the egg (at Katatrepsis). They are situated one on either side of the head and extend from a point on the epidermis just posterior to the dorsal primary head muscles to the suboesophageal ganglion and the adjacent epidermis.2- The glands are syncytial and have deeply staining nuclei of varying size and shape. At the active stage the nuclei increase in size and some become lobulated. Şome vacuoles appear in the cytoplasm which seems to form a network. 3- Throughout the embryonic stages one maximal period of activity appears. This coincides with the separation of the epidermis from the cuticle (embryonic moulting).Then the glands alşo seem to continue their function which is possibly connected with late embryonic developmental phenomena such as sclerotization and melanin deposition. 4- In the first hatchlings the glands are smaller in size.

A new species of Decticinae (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae), Rhacocleis ayali sp.n. from sand dunes of Palmahim and Yad Mordachai (coastal plain of Israel) is described.

The neurosecretory material in the corpora cardiaca of diffe­ rent species of insects have been observed by many scientists, but observations on the structure and activity of the corpora cardiaca are yet very few, The structure of the corpora cardiaca was investigated by C a z a 1 and G u e r r i e r (1946) in Orthoptera, J o 1 y (1945) in Dytiscidae and N ayar (1954) in Locusta migratoria. The neurosecretory cells of the pars intercerebralis and their activity were investigated histologicaliy by Hanström (1553) in Ap- terygrota, Stutinsky (1952) in some species of insects.S c h a r r e r (1952),in Leucophaea maderae,^ ounhiol, Gabe and A r V y (1953) in Bombyx mory, Gabe and A r V y (1954) in some Piecoptera, Gabe (1953) in Thysanour and (1955) in Arachnida, De L e r m a tera). They found a (1956) in Hydrous piceus L (Coleop- secretory material stainable with chrome- alura-hematoxylin-phloxin of Gomori (1941) in pars intercerebralis of the brain.

The ventral head glands of the embryos of the gregarious and solitary phases of gregaria were examined histologically. l.Theyoriginateaspaired invaginationsfromthe epidermis justanteriortoand either side of the second maxillary segment in both phases just after revolution. They are lo- cated in a dorso-lateral position posterior to the dorsally situated primary head muscles and they curve downwards and backwards to a rejoin of the epidermis at a point oppo- site the sub-oesophageal ganglion.

The intestinal bacterial flora of Locusta migratoria migratorioides R. and F. was investigated qualitatively and quantitatively in ali nymph stages and in adults obtained both from laboratory cultures and fresh material collected from the field, as well as from new cultures dating back to material collected from the same place, and comparisons were made of the results.As many as 1565 basterial cultures were isolated from 400 nymphs and adults who- se intestinal flora was investigated. These cultures were formed by 33 species of bacteria belonging to 6 families.

After joining the faculty of the University of Ankara as a member of the Department of Zoology, I have engaged in a study of the spiders of Turkey. From 1953 to date, I tried to collect spiders from ali över Turkey, but the majority of the specimens in this group was found in Ankara and in the immedi- ate surroundings within a radius of 50 kilometers of Ankara.

The Beynam forest, situated on the 40 th. km. of the Ankara-Bâlâ highway within the boundries of Ankara, in the south of the village of Beynam is a relic which covers the Kuyrukçu mountain and consists of Pinus nigra Arnold. subsp. pallasiana (Lamb.) Hohnboe. and Quercus pubescens Willd.The flora of Beynam forest are represented by 66 families, 241 genus and 419 spe- cies and Irano-Turanien elements are predominant. Die geographische Lage und die Oberflâchenformen des Gebiets: Das Untersuchungs- gebiet liegt in Mittelanatolien innerhalb der Grenzen der Kreisstadt Keskin. Durch die Denek und Behrek Berge gestörtes Gebiet hat ein Hügelrelief.

Taxonomy of the members of section Persicaria (Torn.) L. involved collection and analyses of specimens from 167 sites in 26 States in the eastern and Central United States. A total of 1305 dry specimens were sorted by aspect into 12 different groups.Detailed morphological analyses were conducted on 97 or more specimens in six of these taxa. Eighteen to twenty-two vegetative or floral characters were measured on each specimen. Three different Computer programs (NUTAL, GOCOR, and HYBEX) were used to analyze the data. The results of the morphological analyses did not indicate evindence of introgressive hybridization between any taxa.

The Beynam Forest is under the influence of a semi-Continental climate and large portion is overed with loam brown forest soil formed on serpentine motherrock. Accor- ding to Braun-Blanquet floristic method the vegetation types of Beynam Forest may be considered in three main groups: a) Forest vegetation: Pinus nigra subsp. pallasiana and Quercus pubescens, b) River vegetation: Salix alba. c) Step vegetation: Astragalvs microcephalus^ Silene ruscifolia.

The author tried tö hatch for some years the eggs of Acrida bicolor (Thunb.) in the laboratory. But this has failed until the present year because of an eggs to low temperature. inadequate time of exposure of the The grasshopper, Acrida, occurs in nearly ali parts of Tur- key. İt has one generation a year. Around Ankara the eggs are laid in the soil during Septennbsr and October. But laying may continue until November in the laboratory.

The resuits presented in this paper show that, in stem segments of Pisum, there is a predominantly basipetal movement of C14 from applied IAA labelled with C14. The effect of gravity is quite evident and this shows that IAA, applied in receiver blocks, bears the action of gravity.

Diploid ve sun'i tetraploid arpaların kromozomları, mitotit metafazda incelenmiş ve kamera lusida ile çizilmiştir. Çizilen kromozomlar üzerinde yapılan en ve boy ölçümleri dikkate alınarak, har bir kromozomun ayrı ayrı hacmi hesaplanmış, bulunan değerler mukayese edilmiştir. Tokak(diploid) arpasında ortalama tek kromatit hacmi 1.689.434.749.748 A⁰ küp tetra-tokak da 1.409.335.639.826A⁰küp, MA da1.681.797.771.611A⁰küp, TR de ise 1.985.131.425.677A⁰küpdür. Poliploidi olayı ile artan kromozom sayısına paralel kromozom hacimlerinde bir artış görülmektedir. Aksine zamanla; diploid formunun genetik metaryel hacmini muhafaza edebilmek için kromozom hacımlarında azalma göstermemektedir. Görüldüğü gibi komozom hacımları 10 senelik sun'i tetraploidlerde diploidlere nazaran daha küçüktür. Bu küçülmenin çok senelik olan polibloidlerde daha fazla olabileceği ve kromozom hacımlarındaki bu küçülmenin şüphesiz hücre hacmında bir küçülme meydana getireceği ,yada en azından ploid seviyesi ile orantılı olarak hücre hacmında bir artış meydana gelmemesine sebep olacağı açığa çıkmaktadır. Netice olarak ploidi seviyesi arttıkça kromozom hacmındabir küçülme olduğunu söyleyebiliriz.

The present paper is based on the material collected in the last three years in different parts of Turkey. Most of it has been collected by O. K. Gülen and by myself mainly on jour- neys to Eastern Turkey, in 1953 to Van and Hakkâri and in 1954, to Elaztğ, Tunceli and particularly in the Bingöl dağ ran- ge. The results of my journeys were extremely interesting and added much to the knowledge of the Turkish fauna of Orthop- tera.Amongst the Tettigoniidae, ten new species are described and two known species are tedescribed below.Ali types of the new species are deposited in the British Museum (Natural History), paratypes are in the Zoological Insti- tute University of Ankara.

Waebrend einer Reise im Jabre 1951 babe icb am Böbrek- Dağ südwestlich von Keskin und an einem Teil des Deneks von Keskin, eine Reihe von Gesteinsproben gesammelt und die Probestücke von Böbrek mikroskopisch untersucht. Die Ergeb- nisse baben gezeigt, dass das Massiv aus den intrusiven Ges- teinen und zwar baupsaecblich aus Hornblende-Graniten aufge- bâut worden ist.

Les Monts de l’Amanus forment un Horst limite â L’E et L’W par des failleş de direction NS. Ces failleş ont Constitue les voies des intrusions ultra-basiques qui couv- rent partiellement les Monts de l’Amanus. Les Schistes, quartzites et grauwacks qui forment le moyan du horst suivent la direction de la couverture du calcaire mesozoi- que.Par la Methode d’Emberger nous avons defini les Conditions bioclimatiques de la dition. La valeur moyenne du Quotient Q2 varie 55 et 145, m etant entre -1°C et + 8,6 C°. La dition se trouve comprend les etages bioclimatiques mediterraneens humide, subhumide et semi-aride. Par ailleurs, nous avons montre la grande variabilite des con­ ditions climatiques (Pluviometrie mensuelle, annuelle et valeurs de Q2)

Optimum büyüme ısı derecelerini bulmak gayesiyle bazal ortam olarak seçtiğimiz Raulin'in nötr solusyonunda farklı ısı derecelerinde büyütülen Peniclium luteum ZUKAL, Penicillium purpurogenum STOLL, Aspergillus spinulosus WARCUP, Aspergillus cristatus RAPER ve Fennell'in optimum büyüme derecesinin 25 cantigrad olduğu tespit edildi. Gene aynı ortamda fakat farklı pH'larda yetiştirilen bu mantarların optimum pH isteklerinin 6,5 olduğu görüldü. Karbon kaynaklarının da büyüme etkisi incelendi ve neticede Penicillium luteum ZUKAL mantarının L-arabinoz, D-glikoz ve maltoz da; Penicillium purpurogenum STOLL mantarının sakkaraz, L-arabinoz da;Aspergillius spinulosus WARCUP mantarının sakkaroz, nisaşta, D-glikoz da; Aspergillius cristatus RAPER ve FENNELL mantarının da sakkarozda en iyi büyüdüğü, fakat karbon kaynağı bulunmayan bazal ortamlarda hiç birisinin büyümedikleri görüldü. Deneme mantarlarının farklı karbon miktarlarındaki büyümeleri incelenmiş ve bazal ortamdaki karbon kaynağı miktarı azaldıkça mantarların büyümesinin de azaldığı ve karbon kaynağı miktarı arttıkça mantarların büyümelerinin de arttığı tespit edilmiştir. İnceleme konusu olan mantarların farklı azot kaynaklarında büyümeleri incelendi. Penicillium luteum ZUKAL'ın azot kaynaklarından kalsiyum nitrat, potasyum nitratta; Penicillium purpurogenum SDTOLL'un amonyum nitrat ile amonyum sülfatlı ortamda, kalsiyum nitrat ve potasyum nitrattaergillius spinulosus WARCUP'un kalsiyum nitrat, amonyum nitrat ile amınyum sülfatta, sodyum nitrat, potasyum nitrat, amınyum sülfat, amonyum karbonatta; Aspergillius cristatus RAPER ve FENNELL'in amonyum nitrat ilr amonyum sülfatlı ortamda pek iyi büyüdüğü görüldü. Bununla beraber azot kaynağı ihtiva etmeyen bazal ortamlarda mantarların büyümedikjleri tespit edilmiştir. Farklı azot miktarlarında mantarların büyümeleri incelendi. Deneme mantarlarımızdan Penicillium luteum ZUKAL ve en iyi, 1,86 gr/lt N=2N, en kötü 0,931 gr/lt N=1N ihtiva eden ortamda büyüdü. Penicillium purpurogenum STOLL'un en iyi 9,31gr/lt N= 10 N bulunan ortamda, en kötü 5,58 gr/lt N= 6 N ihtiva eden ortamda bazal ortamda büyüdüğü tespit edildi. Aspercillius spinulosus WARCUS ise en iyi 1,86 gr/lt N= 2N, en kötü 3,72 gr/lt N= 4N bulunan ortamda büyüme gösterdi. Aspergillius cristatus RAPER ve FENNELL'in de 0,931 gr/lt N= 1N'lu bazal ortamda en iyi, 0,465 ger/lt N=0,5 N'lu ortamda en kötü büyüdüğü görüldü. Deneme organizmalarının büyümesine C/N oranlarının etkisinin tesiri bazal ortamdaki azot miktarı sabit tutulup, karbon miktarı değiştirilerek arttırıldı ve neticede bazal ortamdaki karbon miktarı arttırdıkça mantarların büyümelerinin de ona paralel olarak arttığı tespit edildi.

Etüde du sol nous a permis de distinguer cinq principaux type de sols. ce sont: les sols d’erosion sur marne, les sols rouges mediterraneens, les sols bruns calcaires, les sols forestiers et les sols bruns lessives.La flöre de monts Amanus est representee 880 especes, 419 genre et 91 familles.Les familles le plus importantes, par le nombre d’especes sont les Legııminosae, Les Compositae et les Labiate. On a decrit deux nouveaux taxon: Thlaspi austroamanicum (cuciferae) Wulfenia orientalis var. glanduligera (scrophulariaceae). En outre les Monts de l’Amanus comprend 65 % d’especes d’origine mediterraneenne.La plus grande partie des especes trouvees dans les tourbieres de Mitisin et de Zorkun comme: Sphagnum, polypodium, Larix, Fagus, Castanea, Carpinus, Corylus, Ta- xus, Acer, Alnus, Juglans ete. indiquent un elimat humide au Quarternaire.

In den letzten Jahren (1946 1955) sind eine Reihe wissen- schaftlicher und klinischer Arbeiten (vom Einzeller bis zum Sâu- getier bzw. Menschen) über “Vitamin T. Goetsch,, erschienen, in denen das Vitamin T-Problem vom experimentell-biologischen, biochemischen und klinischen Standpunkt aus bearbeitet ist.Dabei wurde übereinstiınmend festgestellt, dass das Vitamin T. Goetsch auf Wachstum, Regeneration und Metamorphosever­ lauf bei den Tieren, wie auch bei den klinischen Untersuchun- gen (bei dystrophischen und atrophischen Sâuglingen) eine för- dernde Wirkung ausübte. Auf die Entdeckung, Gewinnung, che- mische Struktur, den Wirkungsmechanismus und auf die Einzel- heiten der bis yetzt festgestellten Ergebnisse des T. Vitamin- Goetsch soll hier nicht eingegangen werden, da in den bis heute erschienenen Arbeiten ausführlich davon die Rede ist (siehe dafür Literaturverzeichnis).

Schon laengfst İst es Landwirten und Pflanzenzüchtern bekannt, dass die Spitzenknospen der Pflanzen auf die Ent- wicklung der unteren Knospentriebe deselben Pflanzen einen hemmenden Einfluss ausüben. Snow (8) hat das erste Mal darauf hingewiesen, dass dieser hemmende Einfluss auf einen innerhalb der Pflanze entstehenden Hemmstoff zurückzuführen İst. Acht Jahre spaeter haben Thimann und Skoog (13) diese Entdeckung bestaetigt.

The secretory glands of insects, the corpora allata and corpora cardiaca found in the posterior part of the head have been studied by several authors. Although many investigations have been made, the role of the corpora cardiaca in the life of the organism has been very littie studied.It was found by physiolog^ical studies that the corpora allata produced a hormone which delayed metamorphosis and brought about retention of larval characters. The hormone which is produced by this gland is called “Juvenile Hormone,,.W i g gl es wo r t h, observed the marked inerease in secretory activity of the cells at the critical period and conciuded that this gland produced a hormone in Rhodnius prolixus (Hemiptera). This theory was backed exp3rimentally bytheauthor, İn 1936.At about the same time (1936) B ou n h i ol also found by experimental means that the corpora allata delayed methamorpho- sis in BoTnbix mori (Lepidoptera).P i e p h o (1940) performed similar experiments on Galleria and obtained the same results.

This study was made on species of Aphodiinae ve Scarabaeinae around Bursa in the years 2006-2007. Bythis study 29 species belonging 8 genera are recorded. The distribution in Turkey and in Palaearcticregion of each species are given. The species of Onthophagus (Amphionthophagus) falzonii Goidanich, 1926, O. (Onthophagus) illyricus (Scopoli, 1763), O.(Palaeonthophagus) coenobita (Herbst, 1783), O. lucidus (Sturm 1800), O. osellai Pittino, 1982, O. similis (Scriba, 1790), O. medius (Kugelann, 1792) were recorded first time from Marmara Region. And species of Aphodius (Acrossus) luridus (Fabricius, 1775), A. (Calamosternus) granarius (Linnaeus, 1767), A. (Eudolus) quadriguttatus (Herbst, 1783), A. (Melinopterus) prodromus (Brahm, 1790), A. punctatosulcatus (Sturm, 1805), O. (Palaeonthophagus) verticicornis (Laicharting, 1781) were recorded first time from Asian part of Marmara region., Bu çalışma 2006-2007 yıllarında Bursa çevresinde Aphodiinae ve Scarabaeinae türleri üzerineyapılmıştır. Bu çalışmada 8 cinse ait 29 tür bulunmuştur. Bulunan her bir türün Türkiye`deki ve Palearktik bölgedeki yayılışları verilmiştir. Onthophagus (Amphionthophagus) falzonii Goidanich, 1926, O.
