Haemolytic actinobacilli were isolated on six separate occasions from the diseased organs of pigs. With two exceptions the affected animals were between 5 and 21 days old. In most cases infection was characterized by an acute septicaemia. The organisms were identified by cultural and biochemical characteristics as Actinobacillus suis . They were shown to be pathogenic for mice and young pigs.
