An account is given of an investigation of the effects of temperature and tension during heat-treatment on the geometrical configuration and shear behaviour of spun-Dacron polyester-fibre and spun-nylon fabrics. The shear curve is analysed at various stages of deformation, and the jamming effect resulting from heat-setting is demonstrated. The contribution of fabric geometry to shear behaviour is discussed. Polarographic methods were employed to study the effect of pilocarpine hydrochloride on the oxygen tension of the submaxillary gland of the rat. It was observed that 0.05 mg was the lowest dose that would induce salivation without systemic side effects. It was also observed that this dosage level resulted in a 50% reduction in the oxygen tension of the submaxillary gland within 14 minutes. The article presents a formula of preparing paper hygroscope in which the chemical compound whereby the moisture of the air produces a change in color, a saturated paper turning blue in very dry air and turning pink when the air is moist. The solution is best affected by grinding the gelatine in a mortar.
