The article discusses issues related to the training of international rural sociologists. In order to understand the growth and spread of rural sociology in the less developed countries, several factors need to be considered. One such factor is the position of rural sociology among social sciences, and of the latter among the various disciplines within the framework of the university and other national institutions of higher learning and research in these nations. Another factor is the determination of some special characteristics of rural sociologists in these developing nations that need to be taken into consideration in order to understand the potentialities of their contributions. The strengths and weaknesses of the training that is imparted to the rural sociologists during their sojourn in North America or elsewhere should also be considered. Another factor to be considered is the status of the rural sociologists in the world of the intellectual elite of these technologically less developed nations, when they return to these countries.
