The article reports on the addition of a drawing of the Virgin by Leonardo da Vinci to the art collections of the Metropolitan Museum in Manhattan, New York City. The drawing was done in black and red chalk on specially prepared paper and has the left-to-right shading favored by the left-handed artist. The subject of the painting features a tight yet tender, fleeting yet eternal smile. It was bought for 22,400 U.S. dollars at an auction in London, England.
