The illusion of carefree merrymaking is quickly dispelled when one observes knots of men on practically every corner with rifles strapped to their shoulders. Even some of the young men promenading with their sweethearts on the Rambla carry guns ready for instant action. It is true that if one judges by externals, the situation has all the earmarks of a proletarian revolution. Actually the probability of an uprising is remote. Spain is having its February, not its October revolution, and Catalonia must be considered in relation to the country as a whole.
