The article focuses on the origin and progress of the Texas labor archives. During the Southern Historical Association's meeting in Memphis in November 1966 a group of mostly young historians organized the Association of Southern Labor Historians (SHA). Its purpose was to promote Southern labor history by encouraging the collection of labor records and the delivery of labor papers at meetings concurrent with those of SHA. Inspired by this development, professor George Green of the University of Texas Arlington history department talked with the university librarian, John Hudson, about the absence of primary resource materials for graduate and undergraduate study in history at UTA and the lack of recent research in the South and Southwest on the history of labor. Professor Howard Lackman of the history department joined in the series of conversations. Researchers learned that no university in the Southwest was actively collecting labor records and that the labor community, possessing tons of non-current records, needed and wanted a labor archives.

General discussion on "Industrialization in the Southwest," was presented by Elmer Johnson from the University of Texas and "The Paper and Pulp Industry of Texas," by Victor Schoffelmayer, The Dallas Morning News. In psychology section, meetings were held on "The Relation of Dominance Scores to Level of Aspiration in Mental Test Performance," and "The Influence of Number of Lists to be Learned upon Learning and Retention."

The article presents information on the meetings of the Gamma Chapter of Texas of the sociological society Alpha Kappa Delta at the University of Texas. At the first meeting for the spring semester, Professor Genevieve Wilcox, a member of Gamma Chapter, read a very interesting paper on "The History of Laredo (Texas)." The next three meetings we considered the following papers, given by members of the Gamma Chapter: "The Background of European Sociology," by Kathleen Thompson; "The Background of American Sociology," by Josephine Evans; and "Trends in Attitudes Toward the Data With Which Sociology Deals," by Rex Hopper.

The article presents a calendar of meetings of the Operations Research Society of America. The meeting in Miami, Florida will be held from November 10 to 12, 1969 and will be chaired by Richard L. Patterson from the University of Florida-Gainesville. George W. Morgenthaler of Martin Marietta Corp. will serve as chairman of the Denver, Colorado meeting on June 18 to 20, 1969. The Dallas, Texas meeting on May 1971 will be chaired by Ronald L. Gue from the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.

For some years there has been a growing recognition by both educators and the profession of accountancy that one of the major problems in accountancy education is the difficulty of keeping the teaching staff abreast of the practical problems in the field. Generally, practical experience is one of the requirements before a permanent teaching appointment is secured. Of necessity this experience can be only for a few years and needs to be reviewed from time to time. In addition, many universities have had the experience of sending out promising young men to secure needed practical experience with the expectation that they would return to their teaching assignment. Almost without fail this expectation has not materialized, because by the time the young man has received adequate experience his value to the profession is such that the university is unable to compensate him sufficiently to secure his return to the classroom. The American Institute of Accountants has recognized this need in education and has begun to set up faculty residences or internships so that faculty men, in very limited numbers, may secure six months to a year's valuable experience in the offices of a public accounting firm. This is a fine step in the right direction but, it is believed, will operate very slowly and will not meet the needs of education fast enough.
