The article evaluates tools pertaining to credit control that have been used or proposed for use in the U.S. The analysis focuses on the specific attributes of tools against the institutional environment of credit in the U.S. in the 1950s. The results are not timeless nor of general applicability. Such validity that does exist will be threatened if any significant change happens in the institutional arrangements through which they choose to operate. Attention is given to central banks and banking history.
