This article presents a study on authoritarian attitudes toward women and their correlates. The items of the four scales were presented in an intermingled order in a self-administering questionnaire. The two anti-women scales had been revised on the basis of item analysis in a pilot study. The questionnaire included a face sheet which called for information such as the subject's state of birth, sex, extracurricular activities, etc., but not his name. The questionnaire was administered to four undergraduate classes in psychology. Three of the classes were in a large university; the fourth was in a smaller college. Both institutions were located in a large Midwestern city. Two of the classes were day classes consisting mostly of full-time students; the other two were night classes consisting mostly of part-time students. On the basis of face sheet information, women were excluded from the sample. This procedure yielded a sample of 83 undergraduate men. Their average age was about 25. Most were single, but the majority reported at least one sister. Few were members of fraternities.
