The article presents information regarding various news and announcements that are scheduled to take place in the year 1965. The Sixtieth Annual Meeting of the American Sociological Association will be held at the Edgewater Beach Hotel in Chicago, during August-September, 1965. The American Society of Planning Officials announced the Third Annual Conference on Urban Planning Information Systems and Programs, during September 8-11 at the Park Sheraton Hotel, New York. Annual meeting of the American Statistical Association will be held during October 29-30, at the Bellevue Stratford Hotel, New York. National Science Foundation has awarded and a new two-year grant of $260,400 to the InterUniversity Consortium for Political Research. the Israeli Institute of Applied Social Research welcomes inquiry from Doctoral candidates interested in collecting data in Israel for their dissertations. The institute offers assistantships, allowing half-time on the students research at an appropriate level of Israeli salary.

This article provides a mathematical presentation of the political parties in Israel. The basic proposition of the author is that five major issues presently surface in Israeli political life. Each one of these issues is identified as distinguishing two or more political parties from others. These five issues are detailed, along with associated party alliances. A comparison is given of 15 logically possible cases and the actual political ideologies found in Israel. Observations, critique of this form of analysis, and conclusions are given.

The Knesset, Israel's unicameral parliament, has 120 members, elected every four years. In the last elections 19 lists presented 1,312 candidates for these 120 seats, as of February 1, 1960. Israel uses the rigid party list system, and the whole country constitutes one constituency. Therefore, most parties present long lists of candidates, of whom only those at the top of these lists appear to be in so-called safe places, that is to have any likelihood of being elected. A similar situation obtains in elections for local authorities, which are likewise conducted by the rigid party list system, in which each local authority is considered as one constituency. Under these circumstances the total number of candidates at any election cannot provide any indication of the amount of competition for the formal decision-making positions. At best these lists of candidates indicate the number of presentable candidates each party can offer at elections, so that it has become a question of honor to present as many candidates as there are mandates available, or even more.

It summarizes the three conferences held in 1970, "The Essence of Growth Models," held in Ma'ale Hachamisha, Israel, "Planning and Market Relations," held in Liblice Castle, Czechoslovakia, and "The Gap Between the Rich and the Poor Nations," held in Bled, Yugoslavia. It includes information on keynote speakers and issues that will be addressed at various meetings.
