The article discusses the distinguishing characteristics of the agricultural science. The branch of sciences have emerged as distinct entities from other branches such as biological sciences, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and the social sciences, during the past century. The continual development in agricultural sciences has served as a vehicle for exploring new areas and catalyzing an onrush of changing technology as new problems are encountered. The nature, achievement, and challenges of various discipline of agricultural science including soil, plant, animal and food sciences are explored.
