The article discusses approaches to business history. It informs that business history as a historical discipline dates only from the late 1920's. It further adds that the practitioners of social science should be better acquainted with the nature of business histories with regard to content, quality and quantity. Business histories are complex and run the, gamut from sound scholarly works to those, which should be left. The business historian is fortunate in having at his command two excellent bibliographical studies. Business history needs to do much to put its own house in order, but it also needs the understanding and support of all the social sciences. Development in all areas, economics, sociology, psychology, history and business administration, are intimately connected with the ramifications of business enterprise as a catalytic agent in society. As a scholarly discipline business history perhaps offers the greatest potential for the utilization of interdepartmental social science analysis.
