This article examines the physical, business, and governmental aspects of the complex relationships and interdependencies in forest utilization in the U.S. The article addresses local forest exhaustion, multipurpose forestry, forest ownership, use of lumber and wood pulp, community dependence, forest industry administration, cooperative measures, government relations and regulation, and government ownership and management agreements. The article advocates for cooperative public and private management of forests in all regions in order to sustain the supply of forest products and provide jobs to local economies.
